A teaser for the new DOOM movie starring The Rock has just been released on IGN. http://filmforce.ign.com/articles/636/636398p1.html

Doesn't look half bad, reminds me of the Resident Evil movie.

I'm glad they follow the setting/"story" of the game. Looks like a pretty straightforward action movie, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it just because it's based on a computer game and I'm a huge smelly nerd

Hey hang on a minute, why did that one guy find a rat during the trailer? I mean, who brought the rats to Mars?

What I have heard about the movie, it's again one of those "loosely based on.." movies, interview with one of IDs designers he said that even tho the setting has changed to something different, the outcome (groin gripping action I presume) and monsters are still from Doom3.

But just like Resident Evil movies, I just loved it even tho the similarities were vague at best, but I take a good movie with storyline altered to work better for a movie, than a movie that is made straight out of the game and sucks ass. I mean, movies like SinCity that follow the resource material step by step and still manage to be the best frikkin movie ever, happens only once in a lifetime.

So you'll be looking one happy camper who is definedly going to see this movie asap.

    :edit:

Rats are usually used in laboratory environment to test different bilogical agents, and as that base was a biological R&D, I think it is pretty obvious.

And the fact that it looked like a white (albino) rat it is just a dead giveaway.

    Had very low expectations.

Read some positive stuff about it recently, raised my expectations quite a bit.

Saw the teaser, expectations back to normal

But okay, does sound like it isnt gonna be completely awful. I'll still give it a chance.

Looks like Aliens meets Deep Rising. I doubt it'll have some of the amusing moments from Deep Rising though, that film had some really fun/good bits.

Loved the end of the panel interview thing, though. "Now he knows why they call me The Rock."

Not sure if I will give it a chance in the cinema, but in general I feel the same way.

A great quote from IMDB Trivia section of Doom (2005) "Certain characters in the movie, such as Dr. Carmack and the Dr. Willits are named for members of id Software (John Carmack and Tim Willits, respectively), developers of the series of games the movie is loosely based on."

Yes, movie loosely based on, just like Stalker the movie is loosely based on "Roadside Picknick".
