maybe it's just the tobacco company realizing that people can't smoke if they spend all their money on games and computer hardware, then spend all that time playing instead of smoking, so make it harder for their best targets (children) to get computer games so they have the extra money to spend on smokes.

No I don't see them doing retarded shit, since I assume them doing it without me even looking. The fact that illinois is the first to try to get this kind of law through to the voters is just an example that it could happen anywhere, haven't you ever heard of 'someone has to do the first move'.

Your post was a little misleading about the illinois thing Kosmo. Its not just games in general that can't be sold to minors...

The law, which takes effect Jan. 1, bars stores from selling or renting extremely violent or sexual games to minors. Violators could be fined $1,000.

Doesn't sound like a particularly big issue to me, but it depends on where you draw the line about "extremely violent or sexual" really.

In my opinion this is just one more example of how the US government is trying to parent my own children instead of myself taking the responsibility as the father and approving what my children play.

I myself dont need the government to govern my family.

Well, the majority of the parents in the states must suck at parenting, because every time i go to target or gamestop i see some mom buying her son a copy of doom3 or something.

not that i dont think this is a bunch of bullshit. i fucking hate hillary clinton and her evil plot to rid the world of video games.

Well I'm not one to assume that half the world is retarded and ddont read descriptions, its not just an US fad.

maybe because its just easier for parents to give them the 40 or 50 dollar game instead of hearing the kid whine about how their friend's parents got them the hot new game with all the guts and bad words.

    eh?

    eh?

Well apparently the news post at Gamesindustry.biz was rather short on specifics. You know, you don't hear news anymore, you hear opinions.

But the fact still stays, these "extremely violent or sexual" games are rated to only be sold to adults, since I don't believe that they are going to even try to convince anyone that games rated mature are "extremely violent or sexual".

    hint: towards the bottom

note the title and the target audience of the award show, vs. the target audience of the game.
