As long as there isn't an unskippable EA Games intro movie (á la C&C Generals/BF2) I see this as a good thing.
Their marketing campaign/budget alone will make HL2 reach the ears of the casual gamer so more people can experience the game.

If this gets Valve's titles on tv commercials, then yay

hmm i have seen a tv commercial for half life 2 a few times on german tv...
i dont really like this at all BUT
EA Partners != EA.
They are actually two seperate entities. EA Partners pretty much just lets you do all your own marketing and stuff and they just put it on a shelf. A lot of people do this but you don't hear much about EA because they're not really there in such a large capacity.
And at the same time,
[begin stewey]
Valve and EA. That's clever- you're clever Valve! oh. Oh! Valve... you're clever. Seriously, seriously, that is too clever.

Barking Dog was contracted by Valve to polish CS beta 5
(and made the orriginal cs_backalley and de_train)
As for the EA logo, a reason more to buy over steam I guess.
Haha, if you want to bleed out of your eyesockets because of rampant stupidity, read the comment thread for the news article at Planethalflife :

EA IS ONLY DISTRIBUTING IT. THEY HAVE NO INFLUENCE OVER VALVE. LEARN TO SEPARATE TRUTH FROM TOTAL BULLSHIT.
You are wrong. EA might be only distributing it, but they'll have lots of influence, seeing as there will probably be tons of contracts that Valve and EA will make, and Valve will have to follow the guidelines of the contract, in which EA will have some control over Valve
oh also this one had me laughing:
WHY EA!? WHY THIS BIG SHIT COMPANY? WHY NOT UBISOFT OR OTHER SMALL COMPANY!
FUCK FOREVER EA, WAL-Mart, Radioshack, and all World-wide company!
thanks for sharing insta. ![]()
And now I'm starting to hear from general idiots that "EA bought Valve".
GG.
Haven't seen a story blown out of proportion like this one has been for a while now. Fun fun fun ![]()
OMG I heard that EA is going to charge a monthly subscription fee for people to use Steam.
Oh I also heard that they will be making handheld mini-HL2 games as brand extentions to HL2...plus they will be creating a new reality show called "Half-World" where they put attractive co-eds and alcohol in an eastern European city that is overrun by a some gestapo-like police force...with sexy results. Oh and all future HL2 based MP servers will have ingame ads for EA sports games, the kind that if you disable on your computer you are considered a cheater and will revoke your steam account...and that the Barney and GMan characters will be featured in their own EA sponsored animated series on MTV. Oh yeah they are going to build an EA office right next to Valve and send a marketing committee full of MBAs to support Valve's marketing strategies. And they are going to take over the Valve mod-expo, too. Oh all future Valve products distributed by EA will also be T rated and be skewed toward hip hop streetracing 2fast2furious wannabes.
Um...anyway...
PHL comments are always there for a good laugh:)
Shit, I still have to get off my arse and play Half-Life 2, I'll be betting some wanker has nicked my CD-key by now ![]()
meh, me no care. I planned on buying through steam, anyway.
Yes ea has to make a bunch of games at once so the put numbers over the quality so they suck alot
/Waits for HL 2006 and HL 2007
Also, if EA doesn't have any influence over the game, why on earth do publishers have QA testers?
Quote from Alexjfry3Yes ea has to make a bunch of games at once so the put numbers over the quality so they suck alot
Ah, Alexjfry3, I'm not expecting EAs business with Valve to extendto to the engine level, and even if so, they are not losing money by sold copy, VUG has already made sure of that.
So, in plain english, EA has no risk involved with this deal, BUT they will make what ever profit out of this to "compensate" their so called "loss" with deals, out of reason to man, or man alike (monkey-strike: source, or what feces ever).
"Oh no. The world will come to an end. The two great evils have merged. The sequence is complete. The game industry is doomed. EA is the devil. HL++ will suck now. Other uninformed, down-with-the-man, bullshit e-opinions here."
