Many of you might know about Relics next RTS Company of Heroes and their new shooter(?) The Outfit, but I just had to take time and just note how awe inspiring Relics work is, watching the screens and videos of Company (short for company of heroes since CoH is already taken) just blows my mind away, I have played RTS games for all my life and not once I have seen anything like Company.

Few days ago I stumbled on Gamespots screen archive of Company and I had to pick my jaw from the floor, just the sheer detail and style of the models in Company is amazing, Relic has some of the most talented people in the world, no the universe.

But like always, these are just opinions, but I really suggest that you take a look of these.

    German Soldier

    USA Soldier

I just have to say, that if these are the in-game models for an RTS game, damn, I can't even do that good FPS models, and I really dig the textures.

Don' get me wrong, Company of Heroes and The Outfit look very nice and Relic is a damn cool company (I just love Homeworld), but I'm getting really, really, really sick of WWII games.

An why do they produce two of them? Must be boring for a designer to create the 100th sherman tank and the 101th french farmhouse.

I hear you there buddy, I love WW2 history, I have read hundreds of books and watched thousands of WW2 documents, and I'm not only getting sick of the plethora of WW2 games, I'm also getting sick of the light hearted approach and glamorizing (is that even a word) of the actual happenings, the games portray USA troops as valiant heroes with clean morales and bright white smiles and German soldiers as just regular German soldiers, not Nazis nor do they portray the actions both sides took during the war.

But I must agree with RD too, I have always been a sucker for anykind of action game especially if it is an RTS, regardless of the setting.

And RD I just can't help myself getting so excited about Relic games, it's like cocaine to me.

Game designers should really try the limits of WW2 setting, we have had alot of WW2 RTS game, even more WW2 FPS games and some WW2 flight, tank and naval simulators. Maybe we should try like WW2 themed building game like Simcity and WW2 themed Sims, or maybe WW2 themed racing game.

There is very little variety in WW2 games.

I agree with current ww2 games being too dramatic and glamorous and filled with clichés.

Btw that American soldier model looks ridiculously muscular. Americans in ww2 were 18-19 yr old kiddies with guns.

Company looks cool, just I hate how their US soldiers look like a mix between RTCW and present day US marines. But their trailer has one of the best screams ever in a game.

Not sure what you meant by the German comment, but I'll go by what I think you're trying to say. You're trying to say that most of the German soldiers in the military during WWII were Nazi and sympathized with everything the Nazi's were doing. Thats no where near entirely correct, while there were certain factions of the German military which were fiercily loyal, such as the SS, the vast majority of German units were composed of conscripts, for example the normal soldiers you speak of. Most of these people were not Nazis, rather, fighting for their country. Most were completely normal and level-headed human beings. The nutcases who were carrying out the atrocities generally weren't level-headed or sane, and shouldn't be confused with conscripted units.

Then again, you could have meant exactly that, and I could just have misunderstood what you said.

This german soldier looks like cloned from a Nazi Propaganda poster. I have never seen a german in real life that looks so aryan.

I like the German, cool style to it.

The Allied soldier is a bit too stylized, with the big build, almost Far Cry merc style.

Yes, I know perfectly well that common soldiers and the average street person were not Nazis nor did they support the acts that they did, but if you think about it, there has not been a single Nazi in RTS or FPS games since the days of Wolfenstein and Spear. So why did they leave them off?

In these "realistic" games you never attack and save people from concentration camps nor do they tell you about the things that went down behind the closed door with Himmler and his SS. So now we have kiddies who think that WW2 was cool because of Tom Hanks and his Band of Brothers series. All people who have studied WW2 do not think it was that glamorous, just like RD said, american soldiers were mostly kids with no idea what they were doing and SS had some very sick agenda.

Maybe it is just me and maybe I'm wrong for hating WW2 and people who make it so glamorous, because when I watched those documents I got sick and almost threw up, and that is the effect those games should have, to remind us of what it really was, and not to entertain us.

But yeah, now if those games were as brutal as they should, they wouldn't make them, and actually, that would be way better.

I agree that WW2 games these days does put a more bright light on it. Band of Brothers is a bad example though. Check episode 9 for example.

Yah I'm getting a little worn out on the WW2 games. After Call of Duty I kinda stopped buying them. I've played the Medal of Honer series and Call of Duty games a little to much. It's all the WW2 I can take.

It's quite surprising that the game industry dosen't produce any games for any other wars. I can't seem to recall to many war first person shooter games that are outside of WW2 besides Battlefield: Vietnam. But then again perhaps WW2 only provides an ideal war game. I guess not to many people want to be shooting muskets.

How about a game for the Cold War? Eh? Yah? Hmmmm?

But now to be serious I would have to agree with you Kosmo. WW2 was definatley not a fun time.
