You would hope retailers are moving their asses and implement security measures to disrupt this shit ?

I can imagine the FC6 or Crisys logo on this ?

I still have hope that if you remove the old GI solution and replace it with Lumen that maybe you can hopefully get something close but you are probably right, it won't hit full parity performance-wise but it should hopefully look much better (otherwise what's the point
).You think heavily stylised games would benefit to jump ship? Say you are just starting production now… this stuff alone could make them look so much better (IMO).

I think it varies per-game. It would depend on how they are stylized. For example, maybe a toon shaded game doesn't want indirect lighting in their game. If that's the case then maybe Lumen is not a good solution.
Do you have a specific example of a highly stylized game you think might benefit?

No, was just thinking if it could be something that would work across the board. I would say “if the devs want to emphasise lights”, but then thought that any game looks nicer with better light control.
Dunno, stuff like this I was imagining

I think for this particular example, the art director probably wouldn't want the Lumen indirect lighting because it looks to me that they want a high contrast, comic book type shading.
Personally, I think it might be at least worth a try but I can see an art director being against introducing indirect lighting to a game with this look.

@blackdog Looks awesome.
Coalition is one of the top tier UE devs, and I look forward to seeing the results of their expertise. The upcoming cinematic test combining the environment with their nextgen character render will certainly be stellar.

Oh shut! I accidentally linked the same demo twice… this website acts a bit funny when pasting stuff from the phone ?
cheers @Zarsky, edited

Sorry for the delay on the Lumen analysis but next week my work is sending me to attend SIGGRAPH and Brian Karis + the Lumen developers will be giving a talk! Hopefully that will be enough of a kick in the butt to gather my notes and see what comes up.

Sweet. Once scalpers stop being assholes or the great GPU shortage of 2021 ends, I can build a system that will run this.
-
The same tracing that is done for reflections is also done for indirect lighting. That is how physics is.
What do wee need to get 120fps and RT? RAM that is faster than 1000 GB/s? 30 teraflops?
