I notice that there is a lot more of these oldschool shooters cropping up lately. Its a passion of mine to work on these kinds of projects as well. I wonder if there is a way I can align myself to take advantage of this trend.

It’s deffo a trend, I guess a response to bloated, open world AAA games. Or maybe, better said, a complement… you might want the quick session when you can’t sit down for 2+ hours.

Anyway if one indie can gather attention the niche is probably ready to gobble another well-put-together small-scope shooter. Problem is getting that attention!

I wonder if being one of the first devs to break into the blockchain smart contract territory would be enough to get that attention. The problem is that in order to do that medium of design I need to figure out how to do it without the need for dedicated servers / trusted 3rd party. Turn based strategy games can easily be done this way but first person shooters usually require some kind of dedicated server setup. Otherwise cheating just ruins the in game economy.

I have thought about a few different solutions but nothing has really stuck yet.

The only other thing I think would be to get my hands on a IP like Sin or Duke Nukem maybe... The odds of that are kinda zero.

Warframe does not use dedicated servers. So its not impossible that a system like that may work.

After a lawsuit with Iron Maiden they had to change the name of this game to Ion Fury, so fucking stupid.

Oh well, game is out, I'll check it out tonight, here's a review and analysis. Shame it's not out on any of the consoles yet, and I lost the habit of playing on PC, but I'll open and exception for this game for sure.
