    Ivory - A competitive 5v5 hostage scenario map by @Quotingmc and @Quadratic.

A terrorist militia has taken hostages in a luxury hunting lodge in this hostage scenario map. Play as the South African Police and rescue the captured civilians before the time runs out.

    A special thanks to @Yanzl , @ZooL , @Thewhaleman and @Squinky for additional assets.

Thanks to @ZooL, Ivory now features its very own CT faction. The South African Police are ready to respond to any threat!

This is nuts. How long do player models typically take to make? I really want to make custom army guys but it seems crazy hard.

That player model in particular isnt that custom from the looks of it, pants and boots are from the separatists, the shirt and vest are from the new phoenix, the head is from FBI_model_variant_c, beret might be custom but it looks like the one from FMPONE's arctic avengers

Berret is from L4D's Bill, pants from the Separatists, the head is indeed FBI C, same for the chest it's the phoenix's and the arms are the Pirate's.

By custom it means it's not an "existing" model in the game, it is "customized" and is loaded using a script. FMPONE's arctic avengers are still based off the SAS, Phoenix and a bit of the Balkans too.

Im aware of how much FMPONE borrowed from existing models to make his Arctic Avengers, im hoping one day we might see new player models that are made from scratch as opposed to being a patchwork of existing Valve models, but thats easier said then done.

Figuring out a viable layout has proved quite a challenge as aspects of my initial sketch fell apart when transfered into hammer as can be seen below. This is a perfect example of why spending ages on every tiny detail on paper is rarely a good idea.

22 versions and countless compiles later and I am starting to get a result I am more happy with. While the base timings are roughly in place, extensive testing is going to be needed to whip the map into a competitivly viable state.

As with most of my serious and pre-planned projects I have created an image board in PureRef from which I also begun to make some small detailing tests and a zoo-like map for props that fit the theme to ensure I have a solid and recognisable visual style and to begin to create a list of custom assets that will be needed. Getting the custom player models sorted early on has helped me chose colours that will provide a large enough contrast between players and their enviroment.

I am learning a lot about mapping for hostage rescue as I go and I am confident I will have a complete layout ready some time next week. In the meantime, here are some very early screenshots for posterity.

CTs have to be limited to Galils and Dual Elites, since the SA Police force standard issue R4 rifle is basically a Galil and the Vektor SP1 pistol is a direct clone of the Beretta 92 :D

Any reference from Namibian locations? This transports me back to my stint as tour interpreter, been in a good number of lodges ?

Also in case you want to add more custom props, these could be interesting

There was an interesting bomb proof APC in Future Weapons that I remember being South African as well but can’t find right now ?

@blackdog I still want one of these after the first time I saw that episode. They pretty much make road legal LAV's for half a milly. I think that the most appealing part is the seating arrangement, stairs to the drivers seat, and the fact that nobody will cut you off. If you get t boned it will be like they are slamming into a brick wall.

New radar for a new version! Many changes, especially to the right side which has been lowered significantly. A very WIP workshop version can be found below but there is no proper clipping yet and several major bugs. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi…/?id=1769160834

Just completed the first 5v5 on it with a bunch of friends and gathered tons of feedback. Overall it was a success with fairly fast rounds and a good amount of options and variation. We had mixed rankes from silvers to a global but everyone picked up the layout quickly.

Another player streamed their POV if anyone wants to see some raw and scrappy gameplay. Lots of changes incoming so stay tuned.

This feedback is just from running around the map, but it seems pretty good, with a good variety of areas. This is more of a personal preference, but I would like to see a larger rescue zone (or even two rescue zones :O), similar to maps like concert. I feel like this increases options for CTs after reaching the hostage.

A few minor things, I hope that tiny fence at the area looking down to the bridge isn't going to be the basis for the actual barrier, especially since the exact same barrier is able to be jumped over at CT spawn. Also, just so you know, you can actually use the hostage to jump up that one way drop if it spawns next to it.

Without a playtest, I can't really give a ton of feedback, but it's looking really good so far :D
