I like the way the light looks better now. more sunny while keeping to a unique athmosphere. the sun may be a bit too yellow, not sure.

The first shot is of the CT spawn near the b site (the front of the church).

Once I finish with the layout, I am gona go around the map adding lights and plants. like, lots of plants. mostly along the lines of ivy or flowerboxes. I think that some greenery would make the whole thing look alot less steril.

So I was wandering around my personal library (Barns and noble) when I happened upon a coffee table book about Venice. and I noticed that my previous interpretation of the city was grossly innaccurate, to say the least. then I tried out de_inferno, and saw one of the most stunning maps I ahve ever laid eyes on, which just happened to contain many models and textures that would be very useful for a venice_themed map, and I realized that I had to fix up my old map.

the layout will be very similar, though less claustrophobic. the church that you see in the last shot is the B site, and the boat in the second to last shot is the terrorist spawn.

    tell me what you think.

ps, if anyone could dredge up some good stained glass window textures for me, they would get free high fives for life. cause right now Im using a tile floor texture and it sucks.

I like the theme and the work you have done is already nice.

But when i see the first picture i dont see mutch detail on some buildings.

Maybe look at some pics on the internet of Venice and search for some detail things for buildings in venice.

That's way too dark and sad to be Venice. Work on that above all. Make the sun shine.

Yeah, those shots look sad. The water looks a bit wierd, there is too little refraction and reflection.

orangish lighting would suit the map better. the grey lighting makes it look too somber to be interesting to look at.

I actually like the change from the oh so popular orange sunset lighting as seen in all the other 14 trillion source maps... i think it looks like a good start. but the water DOES look weird. almost like fog.

Looks good and feels like Venice (I visited it on a rainy day)

Water is not bad imho, a bit to clear perhaps, it looks like expensive water as well and might give quite some players a bad framerate.

All of these people saying that it should be sunny and bright, have any of you seen the film Don't Look Now? It's set in Venice in the Winter, and it portrays Venice as cold, grey and chilling. At the moment I think that the map is leaning a bit too far towards miserable, but the mapper could try to copy the artistic style of Don't Look Now, and create a dim, chilling and dank version of Venice. Would make a change from all the orange source maps, that's for sure.

I dunno... I don't think it's saturation you need in your light_environment, I think it's brightness. There aren't a lot of direct-sunlight maps - sunsets and dusk are popular, but you might try putting this with really intense sun. You don't have much to lose trying multiple light_environment settings anyway - except the time to compile.

I like the atmosphere in the last pic RA7 posted. It would be nice if you could recreate that in your map.

Your water isn't cluttered enough. Its rather boring plane at the moment. Even the reflections aren't helping it. Putting some time to get some custom boats, boat ports, and overhangs for the water would substantialy catapult this map into a piece of art.
