Looks cool enough to me. Space marines vs. monsters might not be original, but I care more about the actual gameplay.
Epic's new game - GEARS OF WAR (UE3)

It would be nice if they had something more creative than marines, I agree. I mean why not come up with some kind of unique human organisation that you actually care about, rather than just some generic "they are human marines, therefore we naturally must like them" scenario? Exercise the whole story-telling muscles and introduce some kind of human/alien conflict which consists of more than "the aliens want to kill all of the humans". There's far more to "humans vs. aliens" than that, and it should be explored.
Regardless of that, the video does look awesome. I can see good things coming from this engine in the future.

oh my shit.. that is so hot.

Who says they haven't flexed the story muscles? All we've seen are a few screenshots and a shaky-cam 5 second movie. Who knows.

looks damn awesome but theres on thing im concerned about the xbox360 is due to come out in november and this should be a launch title well i dont hope that they will rush it because of that....
-
indeed it is very early to make any assumptions based on a 10sec movie and a couple of pics. Also its the first (although there isnt much so far) stuff from a 360 project that has actually impressed me. All the other stuff they have teased with so far could easily be current gen games. Gonna be interesting to see something useful from E3
muh

I wasn't really making assumptions myself, just responding to what others have said in this thread. I'm just expressing what I feel they should really try to do with this game, whether they have or not. This obviously has huge potential, and it'd be a dying shame if they reduced it to a generic aliens vs humans storyline, with nothing more than "kill them before they kill you" holding it all together.
Go Epic! And all that.
-
That surely looks impressive, yes.
As for the marine versus alien type, it's indeed used a lot these days, but so is the WWII theme. I don't think that necessarily stands in the way for a good game experience.
Well, we'll see. The graphics look promising, that's all I can tell right now.

looks like hl2 crossed with d3

Epic: making good engines and boring games since 1998..
We'll see how this goes..

Yeah seriously. I mean Half-Life and Half-Life 2 had zombies and marines in them. And boy those games sucked royal ass didnt they?
You didnt get my point. I said that every recent game has marines in it, it's too much yankee bullshit for my likings. I mean, with thousands of different armies in the world why always the marines are the heros ?
Why not just use Russian soldiers, GayCorp soldiers, TildeCorp officers or something like that ? Sounds cooler than just putting marines everywhere in every game

Half-Life 1 kinda sucked btw, had too many boring parts. Still a great game though.
-
Not only America has marines you know...
-
-
Well space marines, wwII, I don't care
All I care about is if they're smart enough to innovate gameplay and fun on top of all that hot looking stuff. I'm also highly sceptical about the characters looking that good and running on a real PC 1-2 years from now or XBOX 360. -
looks sweet....

Oh god
