It's a prototype. I'd be suprised if it actually looked good.

Hmm, I still don't really like the look of that controller, but the console looks pretty cool there. I wouldn't look at that and think "games console"...to be honest I wouldn't know what I'd think it is

Bleh, screw radians - maths is tricky enough in my estimation without adding in irrational numbers like pi all the damn time

These next-gen consoles really look promising, now only thing they have to invent is how for consoles not to be so gay and not suck all the time. Come on, who believes this generation of consoles will deliver the hype they have caused?

The only thing I'm excited now is that which console will flop the worst, since they all are going to flop, I mean Revolutionize gaming? Oh yeah, I'm glad that came finally

HD Gaming? Does anybody in Microsoft even know the meaning of HD? Only thing that can be defined high on that is the amount of bullshit and costs, that is the high definition strategy of MS.

Home entertainment unit with supercomputer processing power? Oh for the love of god, they must be getting more and more retarded every year if they expect people to believe that, it's like the refigerator that could access to internet.

Now Don't get me wrong, there is always a chance that I buy one of those, the one that has the most promising games coming on *cough* PC *cough* sorry there was some COMPUTER stuck on my throat.

How will they all flop? Its not like past experience shows that all consoles flop. Console gaming is a bigger scene than PC gaming by a huge margin. Fair enough if you aren't keen on consoles, as obviously PC's are better for some sorts of games and if those are your games of choice, its the natural choice to prefer it. Consoles aren't "gay" and nor do they suck however - if you don't play consoles your missing out on some fucking awesome games.

So you have not read or heard anything about these new consoles, besides that they will do exactly the same as the old ones, they just look different?

No, seriously, anyone with a pair of brains can say that the promises the console pushers do are becoming bolder and bolder by the year.

Well the funny things is that I don't have anything against consoles in common, they are great for fast entertaining game sessions and party play with friends, actually if we are completely honest, if my friends are not at my place, or I'm not at theirs, the consoles are not turned on at all, since the only thing these modern consoles have perfected are multiplayer games.

The biggest beef I have with consoles are actually the manufacturers, they make empty promises and when they deliver (like Xbox Live) they charge you with everything at their disposal, the use, the content, everything. The mentality of consoles allow this, in my belowed PC world, I buy one nicely priced game like HL2 or Doom3 (both games that after playing them through, I haven't even touched their single player content with a 40 foot pole) and I get hundreds of like minded players in the FREE internet game and Mods, the console version of it costs 20 euros more and with good chance it doesn't even use the internet capabilities nor multiplayer, and do I have to remind you that if it is Xbox you are paying for the Live you don't even use!

Yes I know, consoles are not gay, it's their narrowminded, retarded, money hog, incompetent developers.

I play alot of console games with my friends, nothing beats a party with heavy drinking crowd and some good multiplayer game, don't really see me playing too many games alone, the Zelda Windwaker for my GC was the last one.

Even if they dissapoint, it won't stop the fact that millions are still going to buy them.

Sad but true. PC games picked up a little during the 2nd half of last year, mostly because of games like Doom3 and HL2, but overall console games sell better than PC games nowadays and I don't think that this trend will stop with the next gen consoles.

Strategically placed terrorist attacks might turn the tide

Yeah it is true that consoles sell like ganja in amsterdam, but look at money made with internet games and look the charts there, it's something like PC 90% and consoles 10% and this is something I'm not seeing next-gen consoles to change either.

Only then will consoles totally top PCs when they got excellent free internet support without the console developer shoving them to some mumbo jumbo peer-to-peer network and modding support, oh and call them PCs ofcourse

Flop by my definition means to fail commercially, and whether the new consoles live up to their promises or not they aren't going to do so.

Not really something you can state like fact when it is obviously down to personal preference. In my flat the consoles get used a shit load, despite the fact we all have our own gaming PC's. PC's have good FPS/RTS/MMO games, but if you like Japanese RPG's, suvival horror games, racing games, beat-em-ups, sports games etc... then the obvious choice of system is going to be a console. I'd say the consoles get the lion's share of interesting games these days.

Xbox live might not be the most wonderful system out there and the fact you have to pay is a bummer, but the way it is implemented into games that support it is, normally, quite a step ahead of PC games. Premium content is normally pretty trivial in terms of cost - I don't begrudge paying £4 for a new city and 8 new cars in PGR2, for example.

And you think that not delivering what they promise won't affect on sales? Something that did or did not happen to Fable maybe?

Promise more than you can give will affect sales, that is the beauty of marketting, they can lie to customers so that they can grab sufficient amount of first day sales before the word of failure is out. I have still some Xbox tag lines running around my head, especially the same kind of promises are made this time around, like the whole number hype when xBOB was coming out, just put a number that can be divided by 8 and you got a marketting scheme, 256 this and 128 that 512 of those and only 64 on these.

I might be something of a Nintendophile but I like their way, they are promising a completely new interface, to revolutionize gaming (I know it is a load of bull), they did something to back that up with DS with some shortcomings but still it was something completely new. Nintendo has their share of empty promises, but I'm very suprised that they have not jumped the "livingroom multimedia center" -bullshit they know that it is a big market, Sony and MS are using it as a stepping stone and they really are riding that half dead horse like no tomorrow, new multimedia capabilities this and better image that, I have no respect for them.

Sony and MS are clearly exploiting anything and eveything at their disposal and do you think it will stop after they got their console out? Now way, you can bet your ass they will get something together to grab more money like the rumored xBOB HDD upgrade and internet capabilities with Microsofts terms, Sony game us some first hand taste of "fuck up the ass" -soup with their PSP and trallallaa media formats and their decision to go with Blu-ray discs even without DVDForums approval to the form. They are fucking up the whole industry and people just smile and give them their money to fuck it up some more, what is this?

I think it is quite nice to see Nintendo going alternative routes in console development rather than just pushing power, but to me its the PSP that looks much more tempting, and the Xbox 360 that will most likely be getting my money. All this "revolutionising" gaming is, as you say, for the most part bullshit. Touch screen is cool... for a little while. Game cartridges that have sunlight sensors to build up "charge" for use in games - novel, but hardly a revolution. Gaming has been using controllers for a good while now and I'm happy to continue doing so - its tried, tested, and it works.

Of course if you want to mention alternative control methods / gaming methods offered by Nintendo, its only fair you at least recognise they aren't the only ones going in this direction. Sony made a hugely successful step into novel control methods with their EyeToy after all.

From what I've heard of the Xbox 360, it sounds perfectly feasible. Saying "gaming will never be the same" or whatever their little advert things claim is obviously a load of crap but its advertising, and everything does it. Perhaps I've not heard some MS publicity on the console that you have, so if you point me toward any claims they have made that are particularly outrageous or unfeasible, then please point me to them. I'm not a blind supporter of MS or anything of the sort, I just happen to have been thoroughly impressed by their last console and so obviously I'm quite likely to buy their follow up.

Oh and apparently Fable was the fastest selling Xbox game in the US until Halo 2 made its appearance, so its not like failing to live up to its hype had as much of a negative impact on the game's commercial success as you suggest.
