Hello everyone, my name is Carsten and I hail from Canada, I just recently stumbled upon this site and was very inspired by what I saw of the community, was excited to join up.

I dabbled in mapmaking a long while ago for CS:S and Unreal Tournament 3, as well as many other games, but have just recently been getting back into it again; I've started making some maps for CS:GO, to be uploaded to the workshop, they are as of yet unreleased but I hope to playtest them with the community soon.

(The first version of one of the CS:GO maps can be found on GameBanana: http://csgo.gamebanana.com/maps/181202 as well as one of my old UT3 maps, if you're curious: http://ut3.gamebanana.com/maps/96936)

I've also been trying to get into creating levels and environments for UE4, and basic game design.

I hope that I can offer some decent feedback for other peoples works and receive some in return; I look forward to seeing what this creative community produces and I'm happy to be a part of it.

    Cheers!

Ayo! I am new here. I am a 3d artist and SCAD grad. I've been playing tons on Insurgency and decided to make a map. I've heard this is a great place and looking forward to being part of the community. You might recognize me from making the ambulance for hoodoo, a TF2 map made by YM. Anyway, glad to be here!

    Hello everyone!

My name is Matthew Barcas, and I'm a level designer/scripter currently working on the Alone in the Dark team. I've been a long time lurker, and I think I finally want to start contributing to the community and be a part of the awesome group here. I hope you'll have me here at Mapcore

Hello, everyone! My name is Alex.

I lead and represent the team, which has been working for almost 10 months on Sol-Ark project. This week we've hit top-20 on IndieDB website again!

Short description: Sol-Ark is a 2D Space RTS with sandbox and rogue-like components. Expect gameplay mechanics designed with player choice in mind and an immense universe to make those decisions in.

Missions and storylines drift from seriously somber to hilariously violent with every new area explored, and random events punctuate these encounters to create a dynamic experience that’s part procedural generation, part astrotechnic action puzzle battle-scarred deep space handcrafted indie celestial celebration

I don't think this is the thread to to introduce your projects, but rather yourself...

Joined the Core last year and haven't introduced myself. I think it's time

I've always been interested to look behind the scenes of the creation of games. I love to see WIP stuff and the process of shaping games and especially levels. I think the 1st time when i got into this a bit more, was in the beta of BF2142 Northern Strike, where i had a lot of fun. Though i was always interestes in game creation, i never created anything myself. Until last year when i installed the CSGO SDK and watched tutorials and began creating a map. This was about the time when i searched for feedback because i had no idea what i was doing, and if that was right or not. I felt a bit like this doge and signed up here.

Time passed by and i pretty much stopped working on the map because i'm missing my concept for the map. I'm not really supporting my own idea anymore and lost the motivation for it because of that. But i started participating in the MC playtests which i really enjoy! It's just a funtime to play heavy WIP maps which such cool guys from the Core. Without you it wouldn't be that fun! So here i am, giving feedback, sometimes mapping a bit, enjoying the EOT and the presence of so many cool and talented people.

Came for feedback, stayed for everything else. Keep it rollin', Hurgs!

Good morning or afternoon or evening all, depending on where you are. I'm Sam and I hope to frequent this forum for the foreseeable future in search of people who would like to give me money to make music for their games.

    I don't want to turn this post into a resume (Before registering, I made sure there was a particular spot for that so as not to annoy anyone), but if I am to introduce myself, I mostly define myself by my music anyway (that's not as douchey as I intended, I just mean that the most interesting things about me tend to be to do with music). So here goes;

I am from Manchester, UK, and studied Classical Music at Leeds College of Music. Now, don't get worried that I'm a pompous, tasteless musician because of that; as well as a strong focus in composition (for which I won the composer of the year award for) I studied classical guitar, which means I have always had strong ties to pop and rock music, and have been in many bands and done many gigs. Hence, I am capable, and actively enjoy, producing music of almost any genre.

I am very interested in getting into writing for games, as I absolutely love gaming. It'll be a fusion of two of my biggest interests I look forward to working with people around here, and am also interested in feedback from other composers and game producers.

If you fancy hearing some of my music, head over to http://%7boption%7d. Its not as updated as it ought to be, but I think it gives a good general impression for now. The most relevant subsection of that will be "Soundtrack/Ambient"

    Hello community.

Well I read through every single introduction here and I have to say.. damn, I felt like nothing. Just for a while though until I realised that none of you got your jobs and skills without dedication. All of you have been where I am now: clueless.

My name is Ricardo and I'm from Portugal. 23 years old and no degree whatsoever (I have some minor technical courses).

I have never made a map using a level editor, just a whole bunch of them on paper for use on my tabletop RPG games like D&D, among others. First game I played was DOOM, the first one on DOS and I remember being really intrigued by the "designers choices". You know, why they chose what they chose and what led them to those choises.

I am a junior software developer in a private security company and I can work my way around C#, but I'm no expert. I've messed around with Unity a bit but am now installing UE4.

The plan is, read good books in everything related to game design, level design, 3D; learning C# or C++ and just work my ass off to be able to make something. Create something that I can be proud of and that other people can enjoy!

Also, unfortunately my artistic skills are those of a rotten potato... I need to work on that too

    Thanks for having me

Hey guys. My name is Nikko and I'm 20 years old from Texas. I've gamed my entire life but just recently got into "working" on games in the last year or so (not professionaly, of course). I'm worried that I waited too long to get into "game development", but I think it's something that I always wanted to do - I just never took it seriously enough until recently. I've always had an unhealthy passion for gaming, and I have a new-found passion for working on them. Getting the chance to get paid to work on games is how I think I can turn my lifelong obsession of gaming into a profitable career, and so far working on them in my own time has made me very happy. I'm currently studying Digital Media at my University and plan to graduate in 2ish years. In my free-time I am focusing on Level Design and making maps/levels for various games with the hope improving my skills and building a portfolio in that discipline.

You can check out what work I have done so far over the last year or so here. Feel free to play them and let me know what you think too! Even though most are older projects, I still appreciate all your feedback. - http://steamcommunity.com/id/iplaytooman…yworkshopfiles/

So far I've only worked in Source Engine (Hammer) in terms of Level Design. I fiddled around with the idea of working in GameMaker:Studio after hearing about the success Tom Francis had with his game "Gunpoint" (and after having a blast playing it) - but I think I want to focus on Level Design instead of making a whole game from scratch. I still would love to learn all the disciplines required (to some degree atleast) to make a game just to gain a better understanding of the process of making a game - but right now I'm just letting myself get lost in my map projects as there is just so much to learn. I'm currently trying to learn Creation Kit on the side (Skyrim mod tools) so I can hopefully start some small projects in that engine once I get a CS:GO map finished up.

Mapcore seems like a great community for sharing work and ideas and I would love to become more involved! I hope to learn alot from you guys!

Hey all! My name is Ingmar uit de Bos, nearly 22 years old and a game and level designer from the Netherlands. I've worked on Age of Wonders 3 as a design intern, and then on Interloper as game designer. These are both strategy games, and so I decided I wanted to broaden my experience. Which is one of the reasons why I'm working on a CS GO level, which I hope to playtest soon (thread will come up shortly). Usually I'm more a lurker type but I decided it's quite beneficial to actively take part in this community, and you all seem really nice! I already learned a lot from Shawn and Sal at last GDC and hope to learn a lot from MapCore! Edit: Here's the thread on the CS GO level:

Good afternoon/ evening for some of you!

My name is Brandon or also known as "marti" on ESEA.net or as my IGN in CS:GO on steam. I have been playing video games since I was about 4 years old starting with the era of the super Nintendo and now an avid computer gamer. My dream job is to work on games and be apart of the ever so non-stop growth of gaming. I do not know exactly what I want to do as of yet, but I'm sure I will find something that will fit me well since there are many different opportunities for me in the gaming industry. I hope you guys welcome me with open arms and help me out on the right path to my career!

    -marti

EDIT: I posted this in the wrong section before, pardon me for my mistake.
