You Decide Mapcore's Future

    Please choose one: 153

    1. Unreal Tournament (31) 20%
    2. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (58) 38%
    3. Team Fortress 2 (7) 5%
    4. Source 2 Destinations (10) 7%
    5. 1024x1024 unit contest (any game) (32) 21%
    6. Black Mesa (15) 10%

You decide where Mapcore goes in 2017.

Choosing events for our beloved 'Core doesn't come lightly, it's a big responsibility. However, our community displays astonishing creativity everyday. Thus, where Mapcore goes next is in your hands.

    GAMES:

Virtual Reality. Finally. It would be fun to examine VR, specifically the Source 2 Destinations workshop, as a way to express ourselves, and get our hands on Source 2.

Unreal Tournament has one of the most futuristic mapping editors we could work with right now.

Black Mesa has matured into a polished stand-alone product. Great, because this is where it all began for Mapcore -- with the legendary Half-Life.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive remains huge. Mapcore and CS:GO Operations have had an amazing, symbiotic relationship over the years.

Team Fortress 2 we could make a big impact on. Imagine a suite of high quality maps for TF2's new Matchmaking player-base, created by you... Also, imagine hats.

Lastly, the 1024x1024 contest is a simple concept: you're limited in the amount of space you have, to exactly 1024x1024 units. We would expand this contest to any game!

Which game(s) do you want to work on?

Would love to take a proper look at Source 2 and a VR project.

There is very few information about what that vote actually is for. Reading through the possible answers I can only assume for the next contest?!

In that case I would really like to see something fresh. We had UT4 and CSGO in the past years. I feel like Black Mesa would definitely be very interesting.

Correct! I guess I didn't want to outright say what we'll do, because you guys need to help shape the process

Valve killed TF2 so while the idea of:

Sounds absolutely lovely, I personally would not invest a huge amount of time into it because the gain is minimal, and if Valve doesn't care that much about it - why should others?

UT4, CS and Black Mesa sound good to me, but I am all in favour of mixing things up when it comes to the contest itself.

How about a Hostage only contest for CS?

I can't get excited about VR until it becomes more affordable.

I like RivFader 's hostage only idea. It would be great to see people trying to make competitively viable cs_ maps.

I would like to get away from CSGO, at least for the time being.

I'd personally prefer Black Mesa or TF2 since they're not games this forum regularly touches, while you will drown in CSGO projects here already on a daily basis.

I wonder if Mapcore could cooperate with the Black Mesa team as well. Surely they wouldn't mind seeing some new MP map for their game getting developed here?

Mapcore obviously needs to branch into hardware.

It could be interesting simply to work with the editor. Keep in mind CS:GO is confirmed moving to Source 2 eventually.

    (Vote for whatever you want)

Already voted for Source 2 Yeah i'm curious how the transition to the new CS:GO tools will be... Afaik no word has been told about the "details".

But long story short: A contest for the "old" tools is not worth it imo. A contest is a great way to learn new stuff.

Regarding Team Fortress 2, it's certainly not dead even though Valve has made some big changes how games are searched these days and mostly to their own servers. Game turns 10 years old in October this year. TF2 is far from dead and Valve does care about it, while people seem to think they do not.

There is definitely potential there to make out something awesome for the game if people choose to do so. Though It's propably not the easiest game to approach to. Money usually is good motivator, if the game age isn't. So if "old tools" are something you dislike, maybe they aren't such bad if your level gets into the game*.
