Adobe mad! Adobe devour!

    I dont want to be the person taking this topic way out to off-topic but I have to say something about the Microsoft case.

    You see, Microsoft is so god damn big you can not even imagine it. There is millions of computers out there, most of them using Windows. (doh)

    Microsof is no magic company. They have to earn their bucks on selling their products. How Microsoft (and Windows) got so big? They simply have made a fantastic product (business wise) It's easy to use and undersatand. Clean and simple. That is why they'v made such sucsesse! If you belive in gold and green grass you live in a fantasy world.. Windows cant be that 1337 shit for for pro gamers ect. simply because it would not sell in such numbers as now!

    Microsoft got so big because they had good business sense, they bought right products (dos) and copied things from other products (graphical interface, just a clone of Mac OS back in the days). The main reason Microsoft got so big, was that they had deals with every major computer retailer to ship windows with every bought computer (this was time before clone computers were invented), and they continue to do so even today. It is not that much easier to use, I have a friend who chose to get a Mac for his first computer, he learned to use the Mac OS first and he says Windows is down right retarded to use, and other friend who has gone for Linux from the beginnig (his father works for University, and in Finland that means basically that you support Linux to the end) and he too says that Windows has flawed UI. These are ofcourse opinions.

    So not anything points out that Microsoft got big because they "made great products", they are still popular because they are so widely supported in software market. And as for games, well just translate DirectX to linux and Mac OS and see Windows lose foothold. Granted, there are some nice features in windows, but it's lightyears behind the current Mac OS X, and as for Linux, well it has the ability to do anything if you know how to do it, so basically what Windows has that is so great? Recently many goverment offices in scandinavia has gone for Linux because of the high costs off windows, the same goes for public schools and other branches of goverment.

    If your read my reply, I only said that they made a great product business wise. I agree that Mac and Linux can be better. Im no protector of Windows. I just pointed out why Windows is so spread.

    Yeah but making product easy to use and understand isn't a business wise decision. Business wise decision is the fact that they made deals with retailers to ship computers with their products, there has been some intelligence to their designs too, like DirectX and developing APIs for their OS, makes developers life that much easier.

    I just wanted to make clear of the situation, nothing more.

    But maybe someday we can get to the point that the operating system is just a software and we can use other software and games regardless of the operating system or platform, kinda like Java but better.

    as a share holder in the Microsoft Corportation... I feel that the company does do some great things... Mainly creates a huge bit of competition which is what is needed for any economy or sound biz to function... I agree that MS has made some poor choices but the best wins and whats great about the software industry is they give you a choice and your not locked into anything, So I think that has created a great competition... that is truely needed to produce the best software possible...

    As far as Adobe buying out Macromedia, knowing what there plans are for products and where the future of that company is headed which is workflow... I think that them buying out macromedia will just extend that more so then whats already there... We will see the evolution of applications that need a pick me up. Apps like GoLive, Version Cue, or even Adobe Bridge could benifit from macromedia's distrobution model when it comes to sorting out media. I think it was a wise buy and I think that if adobe wants to continue to compete in certain markets specificly the web market it needs to insure that other companies such as MS do not take bold steps in removing any market share they already have.

    Well MS has somewhat sured that Adobes next GoLive will be useless if they go with their narrowminded theory that CSS2 is flawed and won't add it to IE7, everyone knows how Adobe relies to CSS on it's GoLive products, it's the main attraction on the GoLive CS2.

    Well, I'm not a bit suprised that MS is ignoring CSS2, it's not their invention, nor did they develope it, NOR do they support any standards at all. What I don't understand is why MS is alienating the whole design community with their bad decisions like this, knowing that only thing they will hurt is the customers.

    Adobe and Macromedia are great additions to eachother, together they have the technology to improve this situation, Macromedia has developed very interesting technologies for use in the web, and Adobe has the stuff to make it useful in other environments than just web. If they play their cards right, we are going to see some great stuff come out in the next few years, and some big changes.
