Does the Core have any hardcore Legacy of Kain fans? Doesn't have to be all the games of course.

I played Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 in 2003, it was fun!

Blood Omen was my jam. It was disgustingly good for its time. Never cared much for the sequals, they just weren't on par. Vae Victis!

Only played Soul Reaver on the PSX, I remember I loved it. Later replayed it on PC. Never played Blood Omen, seems like a completely different game, is this the same franchise but different gameplay style?

The gameplay principles remained more or less unchanged over the years. One thing that isn't constant throughout the series is the camera control. The last entry in the series, Defiance, had the most awful camera control. I couldn't play through it and watched a walkthrough of it instead. Even though the Soul Reaver games have Raziel as the protagonist, the story centers around Kain - hence the name of the series.

Soul Reaver was the shit, played half of Soul Reaver 2 and the mood just wasn't as cool as the first one. About time they make a proper Soul Reaver game again, doesn't need to be crazy epic, just a good platformer with interesting twists :)

Yeah Blood Omen is all about the events that lead up to Soul Reaver, given that you follow through on the canon ending (there's two). Simon Templemans narrative as Kain was awesome, and let's be real, Kain is the most interesting character in the series.

I think a lot of it boils down to how the early 3D games just couldn't portray powerful visuals and gameplay. Blood Omen, Diablo 2 and Castlevania IV are perfect examples where everything felt tight (to me). Early 3D games like Soul Reaver and Castlevania 64 just couldn't suck me in.

It's probably for the best.. The atmosphere didn't match the previous games at all.

Are you familiar with Nosgoth? The cancelled Dead Sun was scrapped into an asymmetrical online multiplayer third-person shooter. I managed to play it when it was just starting out. The gameplay was pretty good and for a while it seemed like it was going to shape into a decent game. Though, it was shut down earlier this year. You can read more about here: http://forums.eu.square-enix.com/showthread.php?t=188531

It's a shame Nosgoth failed to meet Square Enix's expectations, but it's not surprising. The LoK community was split into half - some enjoyed the fresh content, while others criticized it. I was somewhere in the middle. It wasn't the LoK game I wanted, but it was an opportunity to convince Square Enix that people are still interested in the series. Seeing how things have turned out, I doubt we'll get a true single player continuation to the series.
