Resident Evil VII

Just finished my second playthrough, going for the speedrun achievement:
[Blocked Image: http://i.imgur.com/MhWBe7B.png]
I only saved twice, so I've only got two milestones for the run:
Spoiler 40 minutes for reaching the second Jack boss fight, in the basement.
1:40 for reaching the third Jack fight, in the docks.
Could probably easily drop an hour off of that just by actually planning a route. I gathered far, far, far more resources than I needed, lmao (had over 100 pistol bullets in my item box by the end, for example, despite not even bothering taking the pistol into the final stretch). There's also a couple points where they gate progress behind something that seems like you should be able to skip it, like taking a phone call.
Also, the weapon unlocked from beating the game for the first time fucking sucks. No matter how strong the shots are, the 3 round clip with long reload makes it useless past the first half an hour of the game at most.
With the unlock for a second completion + <4 hour completion though, I think I'm finally ready to tackle the "Madhouse" Difficulty.

ahah, man that's crazy!

Unlocked nearly everything except...

ahah, yeah I thought I looked everywhere on my first playthrough and I only got half of them.

Second attempt at a speedrun, this time on Easy but still without looking at anybody else's runs/strategies: 2:08:38. Not bad, but saving 49 minutes is a bit less than I was hoping for. Still spent too much time gathering resources, lol. I didn't expect Easy to be so.... easy. I don't think I actually had to heal once the entire run, and I used the unlocks, so I didn't need health or ammo throughout the game. I gathered coins early to buy the Stabilizer (which makes reloads faster), but it probably was a waste of time.
Gear Analysis:
Spoiler Pistols:
The Albert-01 pistol is powerful, sure, but its dps is dogshit because of its three bullet clip and reload speed. The G17 and MPM pistols both do roughly the exact same damage, but the M19 does nearly as much damage as the Albert: G17/MPM take five headshots to kill a basic Molded, M19 takes 3, Albert takes 2. Considering the clip size and faster reload for the M19, and how plentiful resources are, even on Madhouse? No point to the Albert once you get the M19, which you can get as soon as you first go outside. The Albert you're given for the climax has nine bullets and a laser sight, so the replica you get as an unlock is just really sad. Maybe there's a secret unlock condition to get the real gun?
Other weapons:
The machinegun takes 7 headshots to kill a Molded, but that's taking it slow to make sure every one hits. If you just hold down the key and blast their face point blank, it's ~12/15, still not bad. A faster time to kill than most guns.
The circular saw kills faster, though, at less than a second of holding it to their face to kill (like two seconds for the big armed molded).
The Burner takes ~75 ammo to the face to kill a molded, which is actually pretty fast. The game gives you way more burner ammo than you need, so you might as well use it, right? It's also really good against Jack's final form, because you can just wave it over him, and the eyes take damage over time once they're on fire. The flame rounds of the grenade launcher have the same advantage, but even better, since their blast radius means you can easily hit the eyes you can't see on his belly by just shooting his torso, for example.
The flame rounds do more damage than the neuro rounds, and do damage over time from setting enemies on fire, too. It's especially noticeable on the big armed molded: A single flame round will kill them after a couple seconds of burning, but a neuro round will leave them standing.
I wish you could get the hand axe back after the intro. Axes are just more fun than knifes, imo. The knife has a secondary jab attack if you hold right mouse and click, but I have no idea WHY: It does the same damage, and has the same tiny range as a swipe. I'd be curious if anybody else found a good use for it. I don't know if Mia's survival knife is stronger, because I never bothered using it, lol.
Edit:
Fastest run I can find on Youtube is 1:31:12. Watching it now to see what tech I might've missed.

Finished this game as well

If i can be bothered to finish a title it is equal with a Stamp of Approval. Go get it guys, it's solid entertainment for 95% of the running time. Both old school and modern at the same time. Good fun!

I watched Markiplier's playthrough and the game seems pretty cool. I chose to watch it and not buy it due to the very low FOV and my 780gtx not being up to the task. Will probably get it on sale or when I have a new card

There's an FOV slider in game, goes up to 90, which is enough for my 1080p screen, at least. There's options in the game's config to make it go even higher, including a "FovHackEnable=false" default, but I couldn't get them to produce a visible result after a couple minute's tinkering. Maybe somebody else has figured it out tho.
I just beat Madhouse without using any end-game unlocks, and it made for a much more interesting experience than the first time. A lot harder, for sure. It's kinda crazy that Capcom included Madhouse unlocked from the start as a preorder bonus, because anybody going into that unprepared is gonna get fucking rekt HARD. I hope the speedrun community quickly stops doing runs using unlocks, because having to get resources and actually fight enemies instead of just blowing through them with infinite ammo is a lot more interesting.

So is this game a reboot or a sequel or what? It has a character at the end that even I know but makes no sense to me in the story arc of the games.

This game runs at 1080p / 60fps on a PS4. The game was tweaked so it can run on VR, so it's very well optimized, so I assume the 780 could run this?
Edit: Just checked, the minimum recommended gfx card is a 760.
Spoiler As for the question, I couldn't really understand it either, I'd say the game takes place either before or right after Resident Evil 1, given the fact Chris is wearing the same uniform he wears in RE1.

I'd want to run it at max so I imagine mine would chug. Even markipliers game was chugging a lot at times and I doubt he has a little rig.

I guess it's dead with a 560ti

I can't run it at max with my 1050ti, but only because it struggles during loading if I have the textures on max. Probably would work if I installed it on my SSD.
Also RE7 is set in 2017, like twenty years after Resident Evil 1. There's a magazine that's at least three years out of date at one point that says "16 years after the Raccoon City Incident, survivors are still struggling". It's not directly related to the past games, though: Different source of infection, made by a different evil corporation, in a location none of the previous games addressed. I think last year's lead balloon "Umbrella Corps" might be slightly related to the stuff hinted at near the end, actually. lol.

This game's fun as heck imo. I watched a friend stream it, then got it for myself, and I've already beat it four times, and planning another run. I'm really tempted to get into speedrunning it on Madhouse w/o unlocks.
