Is strafe jumping confirmed btw?

I wish they'd be a bit braver and go back to the Quake 1 art style. Gothic architecture, spooky medieval castles etc. Sci-fi is so common in games these days, would have been refreshing to see that dark Gothic look back again.

God bless id Software and read this. I've now done a complete 180. I'm hyped.

Quote So this is how we approach it, because that is a really good question. At its heart we knew that we had to make a real Quake game. You play the game the same way. Now, we have passive abilities and we have active abilities. And we know that people play first person shooters differently. Some people love the strafe jump, some people don’t rocket jump, some people don’t use air control, and some people are more aggressive or defensive.
So you could pick a character that has some passive abilities, maybe one that’s a little faster, say, that fit with your play style. Then you take that active ability and that’s what you use in specific situations, but it doesn’t change the way you play Quake – which is important. And we were nervous to put the champions into the game.
But we have a testing lab at id and we had PC-only Quake Live fans come in and we’re like, ‘Here you go, play it!’ And they really embraced the champions, they felt like it was additive experience – it didn’t detract – and they actually said at the test, ‘Yeah, you need even more’. And they gave us some ideas of different abilities different champions could have, so we felt good after running some tests through a lab.

Damn I was hoping for proper footage

but intersting info

Ugh it sounds awful sorry. Just make Quake? not some gimpy version with gimpy abilities to pander to the overwatch crowd, that isn't Quake.
-
But they are making Quake... with some added bells and whistles to spice up the gameplay. As someone that spent most of his teen years fragging people on all 3 quake games, I'm hopeful for this, it might not be the landmark the other games were but I like these added elements. We'll see...

the thing with these games is that they need an active community, and people are already hating on it, not a good sign.

A little bit about QC and eSports. I guess a lot more infos/interviews will come out during QuakeCon this week.

It must come with snap map. Boy can you imagine?
But would be great to then have some more liberty to customise and make more uniquely themed maps.
-
If it comes with an editor I'll drop everything and focus full time on making maps.

Yeap, I would definitely get on that boat too. Quake mapping would be too good to pass.

Exactly. I gave up on mapping a long time ago to pursue writing but this would bring me back in a second. Hell, I have so many unfinished Quake Live maps, complete layouts and what not that I wouldn't even to have to start from scratch. I could focus on learning the editor and I've enough friends that could help me out if I need some art

Yeah, I mean, not counting with CS:GO when was the last game that was just fun to grab the stock assets and make maps for?

It looks fun, but it seems like the actual production values aren't noticeably higher than something like Lawbreakers (which has way less name recognition).
