    EDIT: Competintion submission is here!

    Hi, I'm LapnLook!

This map is set in a small town located in Austria in the mountains (the Alps if you somehow haven't guessed).

Workshop link with images, but I posted them down below in the comments: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi…s/?id=459909643

I will post regular progress updates here and on the CSGO reddit (where I have been posting them).

    Hope you like it!

    Any feedback is GREATLY appreciated!

I've been working on detailing the outskirts of the map (basically adding cliffs and pine trees). Once I finish this, I will have to add windows to a few buildings and redo the 3d skybox, and then I'll release the Beta. This will possibly happen next week, after which I will send the map to playtesting to see what needs to be tweaked.

(I'm using TopHATTWaffle's "Real World Textures" texture pack — he WILL be credited in the Beta version)

Here are some pictures of the map (it's only one corner of it, cause the other sides aren't even near complete)

So I decided to redo the train station roof (CT Spawn), cause the previous iteration just looked boring, and frankly, ugly.

I also replaced the metal pillars with wodden ones, but with a metal thingy (someone tell me what you would call that please! :) ). The idea behind this is that it makes wallbanging possible at head height, or if you jump up on one of the benches, but crouching behind one of these offers you full protection (as in no random bullets hitting you through the pillar)

One more thing: just to clarify, these railings are NOT solid for bullets.

Do you guys want me to post a minimap today or tomorrow, or can it wait until I finish the cliffs around the edges of the map?

If you have any questions about the radar image (there is some verticality to the level) ask me, I hopefully can clear it up for you!

    One last thing for today:

wow am I lonely in this thread

anybody wanna comment here? how was your day? what's on your favorite pizza? do you like playing on Dust II?

@LapnkLook Day was okay. Pommes frites pizza with kebab. Dust 2 is pretty generic fun.

I get your feeling of thread feeling abandoned, but that is the case for almost any thread that isn't from an established mapper, so don't feel bad. Some people (like me) only really get feedback through shoving it down everyones throat at the playtest even though I've had a thread up for a week or two with not so many replies, so don't worry, just playtest your maps instead :)

Layout feels a bit claustrophobic from the pic but I really like the setting, if executed well, this could be the next thing :v

also, magyar ország! (I'm not hungarian btw)

The one on cache is called "electric box" I think it is a transformer station.

Also don't take the few replies badly. I only tend to comment when I see an issue. I think this map has some real potential. I think what it really needs is one big feature that makes it stand out eg a big structure or event.

A map set in the alps with no cliff-top vistas?

    disappointed.

dude that would be optimization hell

it's going to be hard af to properly optimize this even without that, cause it's so open and there are trees kinda far up in the cliffs

No I mean the metal protection barrier things around the pillars. I know that there is an electric box :)

3D skybox mate :) I think halflife 2 has some if you need to work out the best method. Every map needs a visual hook. Such a vista will also help orientate the player (if you have the cliff along one side then the player knows where they are as soon as they see it.

I don't think it's that claustrophobic, check out these screenshots from all around the map http://imgur.com/a/EC2Th

I know about the skyboxes but I haven't yet made it on this map cause I have to consider the weird geometry on the cliffs.

MAYBE if I have time I will redo the hills behind the train station to reveal a valley with villages and fields and stuff.

I'm thinking about hosting a playtest on thursday at around 17:00 GMT+1 (from my computer in Hungary - Central/Eastern Europe. would that work?) tied in with the beta release which I'd finish up tomorrow. What do you think?

You should instead get a playtest here: https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/topic/17116-ma…playtesting-40/

Can I apply for this and say that the map will be in a ready state by that time? Just to reserve a timeslot

As well as that, there is also the competition playtesting which you can sign up for here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1WeQ3s…NAdZic/viewform

As to that, I'm not sure, but as long as your map is ready by the slot, I'm sure there won't be a problem.

Well, the things I need to do before releasing a beta:
    – add around 10-15 windows/doors to buildings to make the map look a bit more varied
    – finish the 3d skybox (question: if a pinetree models top goes outside the skybox on top will it cause a compile error or cut off the top of the tree?)
    – fix the goddamn nav mesh... bots never go B cause they can't figure out how to go up stairs that are at a 45 degree angle... it probably is because those are discplacement stairs that have their edges "cut" a bit to make them a bit more realistic
