    Hi MapCore !

First time posting, I discovered your forum thanks to the operation Bloodhound and since I am working on a map for a few months now, I decided to share it with you.

I was making maps for CS:Source few years ago, this is my first shot for CS:GO.

de_stars is a defusal map set somewhere in the Golden State where Terrorists are on a mission to bomb the back lot of a movie set of a controversial movie.
I took inspiration from various Hollywood filming locations (mostly Los Angeles) and some movies and tv show.
I intend to create my own custom props and textures.

I hope I will have more feedbacks here than on the workshop, I am trying to post updates on a weekly basis.

    Thank you for reading!

    Workshop link :http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi…chtext=de_stars

The CT's start around the visitor center, a clean and shiny area with the metal sphere from the Universal Studios and the Universal/Paramount studios gate.

The Terrorists start in the dirty Canal. I took as a reference the Los Angeles River - ("Terminator 2" truck chase scene, "Grease", "24"...)

I want the tones of the aerial perspective to be orange for the bright spots and violet for the shadow to give the impressions that the action is happening early in the morning.

The Terrorist will be able to climb on a Billboard in about 10 seconds after the round starts. This way they will be able to look at 2 important CT sniping points.

The terrorist climbing from the canal will pass through a hangar with a lot of crates containing props from various movies (easter eggs yay \o/)

I know you guys may be tired of level design with a shitload of stupid Crates everywhere, I will try to place them with moderation!

Bomb Site B. The stairs and the structure you can see at the bottom will be made of stone, It will look like "the Hobbit" or "LOTR" movie set, with green screens used for chroma keying stuff and real props.

Bomb Site A. Outdoor movie set location (it will be a "Avengers" type of set, with concret blocks and smashed cars... Im still thinking about it, if you have any ideas...)

A room where they build wooden structures for filming purposes. Area for close range weapons or easy eco rounds maybe...

The Middle. Terrorists come from the left (the Canal) and CT's from the right.

Security Booth and Highway bridge. The bridge was a pain in the ass to make, I used Wallworm and 3DsMax to make it, and I am sure that with the upcoming update of tomorrow, Valve will release a new Hammer version and I will be mad for wasting that much time on this crappy bridge!

Second post incoming with screenshots of Custom props!

    Thank you for watching !

Stairs... Made with 3DsMax and Wallworm. I hate stairs!

Universal Studios Sphere (Universtar Studios here, not sure I can use real life things)

Bridge and Mike's booth from Better Call Saul.

Custom Billboard, if you have any ideas for the advertisement on it, please tell me

    Thank you !

I'll run about and do some exploit hunting. Also the map seems like a fun concept, Hopefully though the map is not based after your reference too much in terms of layout.

I think your level looks much better without the fog, or consider toning it down just a little bit.

Been testing this map since its release on the workshop and have been constantly bugging you with feedback. I hope you don't mind and keep working on this mazing map.

No early morning feeling without it, looks like any other blocky boring csgo map otherwise when it comes to atmosphere

I would recommend swapping the Universal Studios brand with something fictional or something of your own

Fog is terrible for game-play though.

Man you need to tweak your fog, it's so fucking ugly. You can have "early morning" without having to set your fog to some kind of weird fluorescent purple. As a general rule it's best if you keep your fog color similar to your sky color, otherwise you'll get strange stuff in your background such as this one https://migrationtest.mapcore.org/uploads/monthl…f302d42fafd.jpg.

On top of that your sun pitch isn't steep enough, it looks like late morning, at best. You can calculate the ideal pitch here http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/gmd/grad/solcalc/azel.html. The pitch is the "solar elevation" value (+- 90°).

Also don't forget you can use color correction.

The billboard really shouldn't be climbable. you can see into A site over everything. crazy, crazy sightline.

As the others have said already, the one eye-sore that I noticed immediately was the fog. I reckon you should either match it with the skybox color and also make it less dense or remove it completely :)

It seems a little tedious having the Ts spawn in the storm drain too. I would suggest moving them to the plateau after so you don't have to run up a 45 degree slope every round. have the stormdrain as inaccessible visual feature instead.

    Update,

Haven't posted much because I did a lot of stuff that I can't show... Optimization yay \o/

I toned down the fog as suggested, and added details to be more close to the Los Angeles River (I want the city in the background to be in 3D like on vertigo, if I have time...)

And a textured Billboard! (will improve the texture)
I am happy because I was struggling with the model importation for months now, I finally figured how to use the WallWorm tool (Thank you Shawn Olson! Love you!)
(the little red cube at the bottom is my first model ever!!) Now nothing will stop me \o/

Now that I figured out how to deal with textures and models, I will try to post more often...
Will update the map on the workshop when I will clean all the mess I have done in the folders..
And I still have to make an entry to the MapCore contest :>

    Hope you like it :)

Here are 2 screenshots of one of the bombsites. Im starting to add custom textures. The grey stairs will become a custom prop (made of stone) to look like a set of the "lord of the ring" kind of movie.

Here are some poles with red ropes frome what will become the CT spawn (entrance of universal studio). The texture is a little bit crappy, It is my way of quickly "sketching" the area.

And the "Universtar Studios" metal sphere which is slowly coming together. Im happy with the scale, now it needs a good UV unwraping, a good texturing and some material effects...

I am curently trying to learn how to pack the custom content to release a playable version as soon as possible. I read the tutorials of Tophattwhafle about custom content, but it is still hard to understand. I will get to it eventually.

    Hi

I uploaded a new version on the workshop:

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/fi…chtext=de_stars

It was my first time packing custom content... hope it will work.

Here are 4 "movie posters" related to the game, please if you have some fun ideas, CS memes, cool catch phrases, let me know and I will ad them as posters.

    Thank you!
