Some pretty decent maps, although I'm unsure how powerhouse and resistance will play.

Looks like 3D-Mike got an honourable mention for delivering a stunning map that strayed a bit from the HL2 theme (thankfully!).

tis kewkarse that kami won the thing, but (and no disrespect meant by this) i think the visual quality of the contest winners is rather low considering the potential of the hl2 engine. Cant say about gameplay since I havent played any of them but I still think valve should've given the community some more time so that people could get some more cool looking stuff done instead of having to rushing it.

Anyway, grats to kami and mike

To be fair, I don't think they (valve) had the time to spare. Mods with only two maps generally don't maintain interest for too long. The third map screenshot (powerhouse) does look pretty damn tasty, though.

I dunno but WHEN did visual quality in deathmatch maps ever matter. At least back in the days, deathmatch was all about crazy fun gameplay to me...and still is. Realistic+Deathmatch don't mix well IMO :X

Powerhouse looks lovely in my opinion, though perhaps the author went a little OTT with the point_spotlights.

It never was. But if you can make some pretty play cool, why not go for that? I'm pretty sure it's possible, Unreal is the proof.
