It might be the only movie that I still didn't make my mind up on whether I like it or not, and I must have watched it like 3 or 4 times already. ahah
I get what you mean, as I liked it at my first viewing, the whole creation thing was interesting enough… but left me with a weird taste and when I watched it a second and third time disliked it more and more. But I feel like I really want to like it, aesthetically was great. Love the flame thrower scene.

Prometheus looked great, was a bad movie though. I lost hope for Ridley to actually produce a classic again, he is working with some really bad writers nowadays smh

The Martian was a great book, that didn't translate to a moving picture as nicely as I'd hope it would. Checking his imdb credits is a trip, I don't know what he was thinking when he decided to make some of the movies he did.

The best bit of Prometheus is the trailer...

I've been reading up on reviews and it's doing pretty well. Not great, but decent which sounds a whole lot better than what I saw. Maybe it won't so bad after all. Not that I have my hopes up. Just trying to inform the people who I might have left disappointed after my earlier comment.

I might go see it this weekend. It should be fun.

Nope, I saw it yesterday and it's definitely shit. He's trying again to hide a remake of the first Alien movie but poorly... It's like Ridley himself doesn't know what makes Alien great. It's a bad horror movie, It takes the most basic horror situation and successfully do bad things with it.
Spoiler It doesn't even fit at all with the Alien history. There's no question of Alien mother to make eggs, it's the fucking cyborg who makes them.

I really hope he hits an alien in the face with a baseball bat while shouting 'you're fuckin out'
-
The most weird thing is that it looks like a remake of Prometheus. From the trailers it seems to follow the exact same story bit by bit. Just in a lush environment instead of desertic… like "hey, we have more CGI available today".

I went to see it today and I really regret doing so. If I have to describe the movie in one word, that word is going to be cheap. I'll refrain from posting spoilers but in short, it's cheap because they keep making the same movie over and over again. The only difference is that the quality declines. The overall experience is pretty much the exact same plot as we've seen in the first 4 movies. Even though I hated Prometheus, it was the only one after Alien/Aliens that truly went in another direction.
The first 5 minutes or so were interesting because it looked like it was going to do something new, but after that you could predict every twist and turn from a mile a way. It was predictable as fuck. There were no real characters except for the synthetic (that's saying something) and most just served as cannon fodder. Seriously, I can't even recall a single name and I've seen this movie 5 hours ago. It's all so bland. The whole set up felt like a cheap slasher flick. Ridley got flack for Prometheus being too pretentious so he made a 180 degree turn and figured that a lot of overly excessive CGI monsters with gore, some nudity and swearing would make it a better movie.
Besides all of those complaints, there's enough stupidity to annoy you, some continuity errors and so on. I never say never, but I'm saying to goodbye to this franchise. It's open ended so expect even more turds to come but I'm not swallowing it anymore. The next time, I'm staying home.
Also, I realized this:
Spoiler How retarded are you that you are in control of colony ship and suddenly decide to abandon the destination planet and randomly drop somewhere else without testing if it's truly habitable. Simply risking everything purely to move the plot forward. It's even more stupid than all the stupid things in Prometheus combined.
-
Well, now that I've seen it, I have to say.. it's as disappointing as I thought it would be. The only good part in it was the conversation between the synthetics.

I wouldn't know where else to post, although it's not about the Alien movies. This interview with Ridley starts about the reshoots for the most recent film but mentions Alien and Blade Runner. Quite interesting stuff
http://www.vulture.com/2017/12/ridley…d-reshoots.html
although I wonder if this expeditiousness that Ridley is recognised for in filming, is hampering his films. Honestly I haven't really digged one of his works in a while. It was interesting the parallel with American Gangster for All The Money In The World, cos I didn't like that one and the trailer for the last work didn't entice me

Is this the right topic for Alien Covenant? Can’t find other topics…
It just came out on NowTV so watched last night.
I must say I didn’t dislike it like Prometheus, but at same time I did enjoy Prometheus at first viewing. In the sense that I really liked at the time the creationist idea (I guess maybe because I knew religious friends of mine would be upset :D)… now that the wheel is turning, I didn’t like the founding idea of the movie that the Xenos are engineered (I interpret this as the explainer to the line in Aliens when the Wayland Yutani suit says the Xenos are WY property – at least this is how I remember it).
the FX are uncannily reminiscent of I Am Legend (was funny that Cinemasins observed the same) = pretty bad for today standards.
The most annoying thing of the movie is the jackasserie of the colonists going out and about without suits/helmets, dipping open wounds in alien planet water WTF.
the way this is going is scarily toward full film serie reboot

are we near anniversary for first Alien lunch?
i don’t even know why people are asking themselves this, seems pretty obvious:External Content www.youtube.comContent embedded from external sources will not be displayed without your consent.Through the activation of external content, you agree that personal data may be transferred to third party platforms.
