How awesome would it be if he would stick to the Ripley/Hicks concept?

i hope this movie will attach itself to the end of aliens (the pictures heavily imply that but i am not sure if this is actualy the same in development project) and ignore the events of alien 3 ressurection awp the comics and colonial marines (the comics deserving the canon removal the least btw)

rebooting INTO an existing franchise and timeline i think is something that hasnt been done yet right? at least movies?(battle angel alita: last order is my only example i can think of this sort of thing happening)

You would figure that people from here were all over this thread by now. The influence, design wise, of this franchise is huge. Regardless whether you like it or not. Then again, this franchise took some massive blows with that AVP crap and Prometheus. But hey, if Alien Isolation can prove that there's still life in it then surely Neill can too. I have faith in the guy. Let's just hope that Fox doesn't fuck it up.

I have the exact same feeling with this as I do with the new Star Wars movie; it'll simply have to be able to stand on it's own, because just being an Alien movie isn't enough at this point (Alien is one of my favourite movies ever and I love Aliens, but this franchise is seriously tainted at this point).

The stuff he posted on Instagram a while back looked awful IMO. The idea of basically disowning Alien3 from the franchise could be interesting, but honestly then I'd much rather see a new cast and some new ideas for the franchise.

Oh Mazy, awful? Why such a negative reaction? Might not be groundbreaking but seems a bit too strong of a judgment. It's just exploration after all, we need to know what are his ideas, position in the timeline etc… which I haven't heard anything from the man himself(?) or this idea of scraping Alien 3 comes from somewhere other than fan demand?

Alien 3 wasn't that bad. Especially considering Fincher had to make it without a finished script. It was Fox who kept meddling and made it an incoherent mess. I think you still can see some of Fincher's greatness in the movie. It's too bad he disowned it and wouldn't return for the quadrilogy box set. Can't blame him though. However, luckily for us, they made an Assembly Cut without him which makes it a much better movie overall. It completely changes many things and adds 25 minutes to the movie. For a list of changes read this. I recommended you watch this version. It's a good movie!

We can safely ignore Prometheus with it being a prequel and let's never mention Resurrection again. Personally, Alien 3 doesn't have to be ignored. But it would be cool to have the new one take place between 2 and 3. Bring Ripley/Hicks/Bishop back. Aliens ends with the sounds of a facehugger crawling on the ground anyway. Probably inconceivable though due to Ripley never mentioning anything in Alien 3 and their ages. Well, Ripley and Hicks could work but Bishop is too old. Seeing he was partly destroyed, you could go the puppet/cgi route. I don't know, I would love to see it though.

Alien 3 was the first time I've ever seen, I was a teenager so for me was cool as shit.

I started watching Alien for the first time (no bollocks!) last week, but I was too tired and had to stop watching it because I was falling asleep.

Might be a good moment to have a run through everything, so thanks for the suggestion Sprony, will try to find that version.

"I want this film to feel like it's literally the genetic sibling of Aliens," said Blomkamp. "So it's Alien, Aliens, and then this movie".
