So if you all recall I had the worst set of placement matches this season. I can't remember how many now but it was like 50% involved people disconnecting. As a result I think I went in at 1300/Bronze

Well I've pulled myself out of that hole and managed to get to gold. Generally I've played as roadhog because he can help when your comp is low on tanks/support and have crappy dps. On a better comp I tend to just play whatever role is needed.

There was this one night where there was a team of 2 and one of them was this stoner Canadian guy who was talking all spiritually about the game between bong hits. Saying things like "play the character you want man and let the spirit take you over" or "dude, just go with it and have positive vibes, we will win that way". We had such a great game we teamed into a group of 6 and won something like 7 games in a row.

That was one of the most charismatic strategic stoner hippies I ever played with. :D

My new favorite thing to do in skirmish queue for ranked:

I follow people saying hello a lot then say "sir!, sir!, do you have a moment to talk about jesus?"

You've never seen people run away so vigorously.

Dayum. What does that make you now?

Do you play with a dedicated group? Is that level even possible with rando games?

Whenever i group with someone, i'd say i loose 3 or 4 out of 5 games on average. I don't know why, lol.

So yeah, I basically solo queue all the time. It's fascinating the kinds of people you play with, and to see the patterns of personality of the people in plat/diamond/master.

There's a lot of kids in plat, and weird "try hards" (sorry, i hate that term too), people don't comunicate as much, making soloing in this rank a bit hard. Getting to diamond things change vastly, you start playing with redditors and people that take comp very seriously and more than half the team comunicate, still the sporadic salty kid here and there but Diamond is a lot of fun to play.

Master things start to get weird, pretty much every single person talks, sometimes there's 6 people talking on top of each other. But, everyone knows what they are doing, and winning a game in this rank feels like you won a medal. I love when we try to come up with tactics on the fly, adapt comps and the best is when you manage to conect 3 or 4 ults at once to bring down defense lines, you feel you're inside your team mates heads, and they're inside yours.

Usually when I loose in masters (this applies to Diamond to a certain extent) is because of team toxicity. People get stuck in argument loops, "why is our zarya not shielding the monkey" or "player X is throwing, gg", shit like this completely destroys team morale, and it's hard to come out of it.

Something else I noticed, 80% of the people playing in this rank are DPS players, no one ever wants to tank. Lol

Teamed up with a friend today, he had lost all his games and dropped from 2900 to 2600, we won 16 games out of 18, and i managed go climb from 2600 to 3000 :D never had a Win streak like this before :)

I know people who yell at everyone for their picks are assholes, but also there's gotta a middle ground between that and "I'm going to bash my head into a team running Reinhardt and Orisa as Genji, uselessly throwing shurikens into their dual shields as they steamroll us, and then brag about my gold damage medal".

...my competitive experience today has been negative.

Quite recently started playing Overwatch again, haven't really played since Season 1. I've gotten into competitive too and it's quite fun and I really noticed how my skill improved by playing in more demanding matches. :) Currently at 2650:ish something.

However, I am in a bit of a conundrum now when it comes to what heroes I should use and practice with. What is better in your experience, to know at least a character in the different roles or to know several characters in one or two roles so that you can adapt to enemy comp while still performing your "role"? Or in general, how do you guys pick your heroes? Do you stick to your main or mix more?

Focus on few heroes only, mostly DPS (other classes get way less SR gains, even though they drop just like the others).

While it's true DPS heroes have more quantifiable ways of ranking up, there's other ways, I ranked up like CRAZY playing Zen, by doing something very simple: Calling out my discord orbs! I get a card at the end of the games, almost every single time, because you incentivize focused damage. Also trying to predict who your sniper or your 76 will be shooting at by giving him a boost is always good. Another example is that if you're a really good Zarya, successfully giving your mates shields can really help you as well, specially if they have a Roadhog.

As for Puddy's question, I'd say always have your favourit hero, and really learn his strengths / weaknesses and master it. That said, it's very important to also master one hero in each of all 4 categories, your "main" might be already taken sometimes (or often, if it's a popular DPS hero like s76) and you might need to fill. Being able to adapt to comps is the best way to really get good at this game, eventually you'll have a "main" in each category, and that's the best place to be and you can swap heroes on the fly during the game with no problems. Specially if you're doing really well with a hero (For instance, say you're killing it as pharah, if the other team has half a brain, they're gonna counter you with one or even two hitscans), that's your queue to flip that around and counter the counters.

I have not experienced this to be true. I play a lot of different classes, filling as needed based on other people's picks (because I figure my team will be more reliable if they pick who they're best at), and while SR scales with winning streaks and stuff like that, I find my average SR gain playing Zenyatta, Ana, Soldier, Mei, or Reinhardt (my go-to heroes per category) is about the same, 20-30 SR depending on matchup and streak.

Fun fact: A fully charged orb of discord volley, when headshot on a discorded target, does 598 damage. Body shot is half that, still more than enough to kill most people outright.

Fun fact: The orb of discord gives you a free three seconds of wallhax.

Fun fact: Combining these to instantly wipe out somebody trying to flank you, thinking they're clever for dropping behind a wall, is by far the best thing in all of Overwatch.

It's a HUD icon. It's always there as long as you keep it in your line of sight.

Alot of fuzz about a 'leak' saying a new event and hero will come for the 1 year anniversary. People are even making youtube videos about it ?. Who cares, i just want a Doomfist voiced by Terry Crewes!

joking aside, cannot wait for new maps! That is what i love about Overwatch, the maps. Eichenwaldes castle look and pine-trees, bastion/rein lore. Or route 66 with it's amazing design and look of a futuristic 50s route 66.

Hell, i keep dreaming about how New York, or Paris, Junkertown, and many more locations, would look like in Overwatch. I have really fallen in love with the lore and the way maps and Heroes connect into it.

Never thought i would say this about a game but.. Please hurry guys , i need more lore!
