I cannot think of something higher than pedophilia on the ladder of transgression if you want to do it right. Maybe sexual intercourse with trisomic babies followed by cannibalism ? Let's have a little brainstorming guys
HATRED

Pretty sure that wouldn't be tolerated under free speech even by US standards. The law sets limits particularely to sexual obscenity and violence. Remember when Max Hardcore was sent to prison for his movies because he made the girls look like underage school girls?
Thing is plenty of other games depicting the same thing you see in this video game : polygon people killings polygon people.
Why critics are mad is because they assume it's pure first degree and that the devs are horrible nazis, secretly hoping the game creates a mass wave of murders throught the world.
That's seriously not that different from a SAW movie, people might like it but you probably wont. No need to light a bonfire. People should really mind their own business and stop telling others what they shouldn't do. I bet more people will be fucked up by daily stupid tv-shows than by this game.

My point is ther's limits to what can be done without breaking the law so no reason for hyperbole expecting pedo rape sims to be sold on steam soon or any rape sims really.

Perhaps implicit in Gabe's email is the idea that there should be fully independent ways for the customer base to approve/disapprove content they want to see? I hope it wasn't intended as a "free speech is kewl" moment, because there need to be reasonable limitations on what gets Greenlit. Id rather not have Isis or Al Qeada 9/11 simulator on Steam, because "free speech is kewl, yo"
After this game unfortunately I can totally see a new genre of games called let's grab headlines, where the whole point is to troll people with diseased plot ideas...

GabeN has talked about separating Steam from Valve due to the position it has in the market, earlier.

Since everyone is so vocal about this, can you all explain this to me:
- In GTA I can have sex with prostitutes and beat them to dead afterwards to get my money back. I can also go on a rampage, drive people over, shoot hordes of innocent people and wipe out the police department. This game sells millions.
- In Carmageddon I can drive pedestrians over and score points for it. The bigger the kill count, the higher the score.
- In Manhunt my sole objective is to kill people in creative ways. That's it, kill them.
- In Postal you are a nut going on a rampage. The first Postal is exactly the same as Hatred (but with different graphics of course).
Now, none of these games are without controversy but none so loud as with this game. What's changed? What's different?

I think Hatred looks like pure garbage but I'm glad Steam decided to bring it back, if only for artistic freedom. Still not interested in that game at all though.
What I find extremely funny and something I see again and again is people trying to shut it down made it even more popular. They never learn.

I wonder when someone will have the balls to make a game about playing a pedophile serial killer in an open world environment.
I actually thought about the possible appeal of playing as an Iraqi/Afghani insurgent once, purely from a mechanical perspective (stealth, planning, deception, evasion etc). I realised that you can easily flip the scenario around and make it a Red Dawn type game and it would be totally okay.

GTA's main purpose in the game is not kill civilians; all the others didn't sell as much and they are quite old. Since then market expanded and this is so much more graphical…

I think the last game that got this level of moral outrage from the gaming press was Rape Lay. And with both games all they've really achieved is to give the game a lot of attention and money.

besides this games dumb theme IMO(no need to get heated guys) The design is so beautiful I love the art in it and the destruction, its so well made, just wish it had a different theme applied.
-
If that game would include killing terrorists then there wouldn't be such a fuss. It's not " how to become a murderer in real life ". It's a great stress relief! In games you do what you can't do in real life. Since when brutal kills in Manhunt are less terrifying than Hatred. Both have a storyline wich tells you to kill anyone you see.

Anyone else feel like they are kind of ripping off the doom logo?
At this point I really do have the feeling the team consists of some excellent marketers taking advantage of the current climate of social/political discourse . The timing is too good. It will be interesting to see whether or not this is a financial success.
Also how crazy is it that RWS is still in business?

I think the logo was a conscious choice to try to liken it to Doom's controversy. I imagine it will work decently well right now though, if Steam still carries it despite the rating, I imagine the "sjws taking away our games :(" ethos will work at least reasonably well with Steam's community, judging by the discussions board on greenlight. Look how well Postal 2 still sells on Steam, it's how RWS still runs
