I'm sorry dude, but that kind of judgmental and "moral high ground" mentality is exactly the same as religious fanatics, thinking their entitled to make decisions for everyone else because their "morals" are telling them what's right and what's wrong.

Let the human collective answer the question on whether or not they want this, not the individual in power. In theory, that's what Greenlight is, right?

PS. The game is trash tho, definitely agree with you there, i'm not defending the game, i'm talking about valves decision here, it could be a porn version of pac-man instead of hatred.

You could say the same thing about you forcing Steam to publish the game. Why are you making them publish something they don't want to publish? It's their platform, why are you trying to make the decision for them? Nobody is saying the game is against the law, they're saying they don't want to publish it. Big difference.

Clearly "offensive content" needs to be expanded upon.

Surely desura will be excited about their hot exclusive though

It's a PR move, can you imagine the shitstorm if they allowed it to be sold? As far as I'm concerned this game comes under porn (as murder porn), inappropriate and offensive.

The game doesn't offend me, I just think it's a stupid fucking idea that will only end badly.

If anyone is actually looking forward to this game, regardless of shooting pixels and the lack of correlation between "anti-social behaviour" and violence in video games, they need to get their head checked.

I fully meant that I respect their decision. Honestly, if I were in Valve's position, I wouldn't publish the game. Valve, though, has been historically bad in terms of moderation/setting clear standards. Look at a game like Sakura Spirit. The game's store page states "This game includes nudity and explicit sexual dialog.", so how did the game get on Steam, so wouldn't that be against the "No porn" rule that is stated on the Greenlight donation page?

And like that, it's back on Greenlight, Valve moderation at its finest. :/

I was about to write a long post about this whole mess and then realized that I'd just be playing into the hands of the devs (just like everybody else from Polygon to Valve). Just don't talk about it anymore. Ignore it.

I dont think taking it down was a good idea at all. No rules have been broken and they only ended up promoting the game more.

I wonder when someone will have the balls to make a game about playing a pedophile serial killer in an open world environment.

But freedom of speech and creativity right?

    Activities include:

    • public masturbation outside schools during lunch breaks
    • public masturbation by public playgrounds
    • setting up hidden cameras
    • real time grooming
    • wear a long trench coat
    • grow a patchy moustache

As long as it's satirical right? Not that it seems to make a difference anymore...

Before you know it, they'll have a simulator of this recent Pakistani massacre. But hey, let's greenlight that too because it's fun!

While I'd hate for this game to be banned no matter how distasteful I find it due to the free speech implications, I do think that retailers have a right to decide what kind of entertainment they're willing to stock. Games are now reaching the point where certain kinds of them can justifiably be treated like porn.

What we have here seems to be a terrorism/public massacre simulator. Seeing as the western world bizarrely finds violence a lot more palatable than sexuality, would anyone be remotely surprised to find that vendors such as Valve and the wider public don't particularly approve of the rape simulator games that are out there?

We're only going to see more of these things coming along, and at a certain point we have to stop seeing decisions to not distribute such material as censorship, and instead as the gaming equivalent of Netflix not wishing to stream hardcore porn. Handling these editorial decisions will undoubtedly be challenging, but as more simulators come along catering to violent and sexual fantasies — and let's make no mistake about it, things like Oculus Rift are going to unleash an avalanche of these things — it's something that has to be done.

I hate using terms like 'murder simulator' because I feel like I'm somehow channeling the ridiculousness of Jack Thompson, but we're no longer in an age where every game is acceptable for mainstream consumption and should be available in every store. Some of the stuff out there now is no Leisure Suit Larry or Grand Theft Auto, but it should always be available via the vendors that are OK with providing it.

The thing is, i'm ok with the doxa of free speech, i mean i don't mind the most hardcore porn even the one including oysters and chorizo. But i just don't want it pop under my eyes at the regular store i go buy my videogames. Question of standards

Pretty sure that wouldn't be tolerated under free speech even by US standards. The law sets limits particularely to sexual obscenity and violence. Remember when Max Hardcore was sent to prison for his movies because he made the girls look like underage school girls?
