    Guys we all have opinions about stuff and this is how it should be. But what I don't understand why someone is judging other state of mental health by liking this trailer

    Well I wish my 2 year old didn't get up at 3am to take a dump in the toilet....for 45 minutes...cause I am freaking tired as hell but wtf here goes....


    Killing unarmed, innocent people (or even unarmed guilty people) in games always gives me pause. Even way back to the original Half-Life I just couldn't bring myself to shoot the scientists for no reason. War, combat, killing things that are trying to kill you...yeah...in a game I can get that and of course we've all done that in games for yea- no, eons. Epochs, even.


    A few times in GTA I said fuck it and started killing civilians...and then the cops come in droves. And most of the time I'd just keep shooting and killing and then get killed. I didn't feel so bad getting killed in the game cause wtf i just blew away all these NPCs getting coffee and shit and well my character deserved it. It felt somewhat real to me, and it made me feel good that I felt bad for killing NPCs because it reminded me I am a good person who cares about other human beings....even if a game is just a meaningless simulation at the end of the day.


    But in this game, it just feels like a celebration of narcissistic, insane superiority with absolutely zero shred of humanity.

    And here is my personal problem with that:


    I want my games to mean something. I like games that cause me to learn something about characters, people, myself, my ideas etc. that hopefully will teach me a reason to be more positive, hopeful and better. I want to think about issues in society that will hopefully inspire people to question why things are the way they are and further inspire people to want to make the world better. Kinda flowery and rainbow unicorn-y. Yeah, I get it. I'm a skeptic, not a cynic.


    I have two small children. Every day when I drop my daughter off at kindergarten I think about her safety, and how I love her with all my heart.


    Things like this basically say "let's celebrate all the school shooters, all the narcissistic psychos and make this behavior fun!"


    Or is it not trying to do that? Doesn't seem like it. I have to be brutally honest, if I were hiring a game developer and they told me they made this game and loved it and found nothing wrong with it and that they could not see why anyone would at least find it objectionable and then start denouncing anyone who had a problem with it, I wouldn't hired that person simply due to a conflict in my personal moral code.


    Why? Because deep down I would be worried about that person's values, that it says somewhere they believe that the behavior in this simulation is okay. Or said another way, it makes me wonder if that person fantasizes about going on killing sprees themselves. I just don't want to be around that or celebrate that. I suppose it is okay to have thoughts but if you are thinking about that, and thinking about that a lot, you have issues with anger. I find people like that ultimately very toxic even if they never touch a weapon or harm another person ever in their life.


    And finally the flip side...there is something fascinating in watching that trailer, like watching a horrible car crash in slow motion. When I watched it I really felt bad and thought about my kids and their schools and how I hope all the kids in their schools are free from bullying...then I thought about wanting to be a guest teacher at the school on how to recognize when you are bullying someone and what to do if you are being bullied. So bravo for making me think something positive after watching this.


    Still wouldn't ever buy it but having said all that...hope the devs enjoy their right of expression. We'll just have to sit back and see what happens.

    If someone made a game about shooting up a school, would you judge them? The emo guy in this trailer is like saying genocide is cool. How is that different?

    No you're wrong, content is judged all the time by wether it only appeals to a prurient unhealthy interest, that's why broadcasting the Terminator on television is OK, but broadcasting Cannibal Holocaust is not. Both talk about murder, but one is pornographic about it. The content of this game is trash, as bad as I've seen in games.

    How can we get worse than this, I'm being serious. Role playing as a Nazi and loading the ovens up? Is that actually worse than designing a game that only focuses on just shooting random civilians for no reason? The people making and buying these games are responsible in the end for their terribleness, I'm not saying censor them necessarily, I'm saying if you buy this you need to think about it and ask yourself what the hell is wrong with you, in my personal opinion.

    Not really my cup of tea but hey if people want to play something like this I'm not going to get on my moral high horse. Not that I have a high horse. Or morals for that matter.

    The problem is that the game is completely tone-deaf. It's trying so hard to be the Doom for a new generation, but knows nothing about why Doom worked so well. Doom was a product of action movies filled with ridiculous practical effects, not a wish to kill people. This is just glorifying going on a massacre/trying to scare the old people. It's especially tone-deaf when it comes days after someone threatened to shoot up a school because of video games.

    Sounds like Salo, Natrual born killers or A Serbian film in game form.


    Edit : I believe Salo was banned for a few years when it first came out.

    You still didn't answer my question. If someone made a school shooting game, what would you think of that? It's actually been done before, but in saying UE4 hyper realistic kid murdering game. What do you think about that?

    I think your average teenager would mock this game, I want to believe the only type of teenager who would find it appealing are the kind likely to shoot up a school, like your Columbine shooters or what have you.

    This probably won't create any mass shooters but will surely be used by conservatives to push more regulations on our industry. It will also take just one random shooting (that happens all the time in america) for them to put the blame on this game and call for the devs' heads. I understand the freedom of speech point they are trying to make but I don't think society is ready to have that discussion yet.


    This game should really fall in the same category as japanese rape simulators and shit like that, niche games that do exist and help twisted minds alleviate their desires, but are kept confined to the darkest corners of the internet.


    But yeah, this is pretty fucking distasteful. I'd never work on something like this.

    Mmm, it seems to me like a game created to generate bad press, but press nonetheless (=popularity).

    Guys I srsly would like you to stop pointing at my friends ! Maybe they are making a shit as fucking retared game for you, but saying that are fucked up ? STAP !

    This is a game you love or hate ! We know that, they know that. But here I was sure we would get a much more matture discussion not just making us apart !
    Puting that aside, this is theirs first project and belive me, the interest they got after 8h of this online - GOLDEN, and yes i know what do you think but they are visible at this point!
    Secound of all, you might think that ppl are psychos if they want to play this game, but there are MANY gamers who are sick and tired of censure in games.

    And if you think that I'm a serial killer, than GOOD !

    I've got some buddies making a game about making love to donkeys, but don't judge them y'all they're pretty cool. Come on man. Keep it real for a second.

    The point I'm making is that who the developers are isn't really relevant, I consider many of you my friends but I would call any of you out if you made a game like this, because it's juvenile and irresponsible. I've said my piece on this game, part of it is not giving it the attention it so desperately is attempting to achieve, but the other part of it is addressing people who are defending it and calling them out because they're also part of the problem here.     Holy shit what a thread. I get that everyone has opinions and what not about video games, and whats right or wrong, but it seems the common census here is that no one is really on board with the idea of a video game glorifying needless murder and violence. Especially in such a non fantasy style, in which you play as a typical emo grunge death guy who wants to kill everyone and die gloriously. I think that taking the number one pointed out issue of the GTA series, being able to kill anyone, and then refining that and making that the key point of your game, in a serious tone, is just too far. Im not pointing at you knj or your friends, im just stating my opinion on the matter and what I believe is right or wrong.

    What I think is sad too is that this is a pretty good looking game they've made engine wise, and mechanics wise, for being a top down shooter, but being so polished, just a shame the subject is about brutally murdering everyone in glory.

    They just switch civilians to zombies and everyone's happy.


    With this they just get attention and exposure.

    CONTEXT! Seriously guys. How do you not understand context, GTA is not about murdering civilians even if you can. This game is solely about murdering civilians.
