Heya. You people from #mapcore probably already know me, but I'm new to the forums (gg laziness). Anyway, I just started trying to learn how to do textures in Photoshop, and I decided...for my first try, to remake a texture I saw in a custom WAD I found a while ago. It's not an EXACT remake, I did make some variations that I wanted to make...but anyway...I'd really like as much constructive criticism as I can get, I want to get better!

Like I said, this is my first attempt at texturing. I already know I need more detail in the texture, and I was told that I need to learn how to 'normal map' it (which I have no idea how to do), but apart from that, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone in advance for your time! Have a great day.

You could have kept the fact it was a remake a secret, it's a new texture.

Looks alright, not an advanced texture, but it does the job well.

Great to see you didn't use the sharpen and noise filters all over it, as a lot of people do on their first texture.

I don't think it needs more detail on the texture itself, normal map and reflections will be enough for it.

*Edit: Looking at it again, I see you have copied one tile, do some small variations on the tiles and it'll look better.

add smart use of scratches, dirt ect. Nothing is so clean unless you're in Intel's white rooms.

Looks like a nice first effort. The thing that strikes me is how varied the colour of the tiles are, yet it seemingly isn't done "on purpose" in that it doesn't have a pattern or anything. I'd be inclined to suggest evening out the tones a little, just comes across as a bit too random to me as it is.

I don't see a problem with the pattern. But its a little bland right now. Like its only colored squares with black lines around them. I'd like to see this in game with a little specular and normal mapping action on it.

I'm gonna end up trying again with the texture, to see if I can come up with something better, and use some better techniques and crap. I'm posting from school, so when I get home, I'll try again! ^^
