It seems Activision is about to launch Sierra once more at Gamescom, and have a new logo teaser for it here:

I used to associate Sierra with quality back in my youth. Hope they can get back to their golden-years!

why is everyone hating on kickstarter ?!

    everything i have backed either

    a) came out and was awesome (4 or 5)

    b) is still in development but looks like its gonna be awesome ( 3 or 4)

    c) collapsed but fully refunded me (only 1)

when ever i see one of those anti kickstarter comments i think in my mind "learn how to pick your projects people!"

I trink why people is hating is : Activision > $ > fund Sierra > Kickstarter.

KS is for helping people without funds IMO, but some companies are starting to use in order to not lose any $ if the game is a failure.

because there's plenty of room to exploit kickstarter, and people generally love to exploit everything.

I'd imagine people are angry at Activision for using Kickstarter rather than their own funds, not the concept of kickstarter itself.

Yeah, Kickstarter was (originally at least) supposed to be about smaller and independent groups of people making something they wouldn't of been able to make without it.

Nothing is stopping Activision from making Sierra games again on their own, they just want to reduce the risk by not having to put much of their own money into it.

On the other hand, without Kickstarter they probably wouldn't of bothered to even try this so...

I don't like this new "we won't risk losing money on any of our old IPs but we still want to release and do something with our old IPs cause indie games and retro games sell so much"-shit. So Activision, who probaly has the most money in the biz is gonna kickstart a game or games, via a defenced old publisher that people liked (comon, HL, Swat etc etc), that will cost them less than a 1/10 of the marketing budget of a cod exp. Just put SoF1 on steam, bastards.

Epic is kinda doing the same thing, but instead of asking for money, asking for participation from fans, at least that's better (like, much better), in the end, epic knows that UT isn't a franschise that attracts a gears-of-war audience, so why invest too much? Probably a smart move, Epic can't handle their own IP properly anyway so.

Kickstarter was a great idea initialy but they are losing so much credibility with money grabbing schemes like this and all that potatoe salad crap. Eventualy people will just lose interest and stop caring altogether. And the ones who will suffer most from this are the small teams who actualy have some good ideas and talent but no budget.

TIL that some game publishers truly have no bounds, integrity or moral decency whatsoever.

It sounds like Activision's new (old) indie game publishing label. This is good news.
