everything is faster than source

I've spent the last four years building tools just for making the Source pipeline faster. So, at this moment, when it comes to rapid development of assets/levels, I'm very confident that if you are proficient in 3ds Max and Source, and are capable of learning some of Wall Worm, you can discover extreme satisfaction. With NO USE OF HAMMER. You can do rapid blockout, models, textures, materials, 2d skyies, 3d skies and more without opening Hammer or text editors.
-
But again, it's 3ds Max and Source, Source alone is simply dated and in many ways not pleasant to work with IMO
It's all good untill you start doing something other than brushwork.
I'm pretty sure your tools are a huge improvement and a timesaver, but not everyone uses max

Well yes. You are correct. If you are not a Max user... then this means nothing. I'm only speaking for those who are Max users or those who have an interest in it. If I did not enjoy Max, I'd probably not touch Source anymore.
But if you do know Max and Source, you now have the ability to produce content far more quickly than was ever possible in the past.
I was in UE4 earlier today... and although I will agree that it is FAR nicer than the tools Valve has for us in Source... I will also say that I personally find it clunky next to level design inside Max (and Max for Source at that).
But yes, again, you are correct. This is irrelevant for those who are not Max addicts such as myself.

Literally typing vert coords and bitmap values would be faster. In notepad.

I don't participate but I spent my vote on UE4. Loads of you have it, there's loads of talented people, I'm curious to see what you can come up with

-
Totally just bought UE4, ditch source already newbs...
-
I think it would be a shame to see this place get stuck with old tech.

-
Bought UE4 as well and I'm really enjoying it so far! Instantly spawned a lot of game ideas...

Still far from proficient, but I'll get there step by step.

To the guys who are saying things like needing to move on from source.
That would be great, if anyone was actually playing anything other than source games. They aren't though and I make things for people to experience, I would hope that is what all of you should be doing. Until an engine comes along that is as prolific as source, source wins. Every time.

I think this is a real consideration. Can anyone name any game other than UT4 (not even released) which uses UE4? Whatever you make isn't going to be played in all likelihood, and that's hardly ideal IMO. Levels are meant to be played, not hung up on a wall somewhere.
-
I'll probably make a UT4 map then never bother with it again

Imma just leave this here...

Why don't we make a challenge on the Far CRy 3 map editor ? I'm sure there's a bunch of people playing this game on multiplayer gamemodes, right ?
-
I ll join UE4 contest, 41/41, interesting...

Or you know, maybe be put in a portfolio and help get a job
This can be discussed forever when we don't know what the challenge is.My suspicion is that most of our very talented UE4 devs aren't unemployed. Not that I'm against a UE4 challenge for that reason, I want to see what people do with the engine as much as anybody else, and I wouldn't mind learning a thing or two about it as well. But a Source challenge would be far more inclusive and practical right now.
