yeah that is what i am thinking
THQ... Next Crytek?
-
-
Well that's disappointing. Do we point the finger at Crysis 3 and Ryse being so-so?
-
Point the finger at that's the only fucking thing that everyone in this industry believes in any more. F2P MOBAs up the wazoo, few places under the sun and everyone else left with their eyes to cry in a year or so.
-
-
Everyone wants to be self publishing, everyone wants to make F2P and everyone is making a MOBA game. Fact of life, the market won't sustain them all.
Edit: As a reminder, people at Crytek blamed the move to F2P everything as one of the reasons for this financial incident.
-
oh yeah you have to be pretty much suicidal to want to go up against the mindshare of dota and LoL. Even if you have a good game it doesn't really matter at this point.
-
Yes Furyo, most people are sheep. It's the same in business. Someone finds something new somewhere and everybody follows. That's why a lot of things don't last. When everyone is doing the same thing it gets flooded and people get fed up untill the new hot thing comes a long. Nobody is going to change this cycle. Shit just happens.

Deep Silver getting the rights for Homefront.

What does it mean for Crytek UK practically? Is it closed down or?
-
Just saw this, too. Looks like Deep Silver bought them out?

Apparently they've also more or less closed down Crytek USA, moved Hunt development to Frankfurt :C~

DUN DUN DUUUUUN!
-
Crytek UK isn't closing down as such, we are continuing to work in the same offices, with the same people on HF2, the main difference being we are no longer part of Crytek and are now owned by Deep Silver

That's good news then Paul, glad you're rid of the stigma of the Crytek situation. That can't have been a nice thing looming over. You manage to keep your job then I take it?

I don't know what the edit said
A job is there for me though if I want it, the new Dambuster company requires everyone to sign a new contract but apart from that it's a seamless transfer. No one will technically lose their job over this, but a lot of people left during the few months that we weren't paid. It's easy to see why - even though recently we've known this acquisition was likely to happen a lot of people had already interviewed with other companies and sometimes the lure of a new workplace and fresh start is hard to resist. I also have a few options I'm currently weighing up, I will likely make a decision this week. -
"Dambusters"? lol...

At first I said 'glad you're rid of the stigma of crytek' but didn't mean to offend anybody still at Crytek.

Best of luck with the transition dude. It's nice to have options!
-
Not that I know for sure this will happen, and far from me to wish for it too, but I'd be worried about ongoing development post HF2. Also, still very worried with future of Crytek as a developer. I understand they want to publish online games, and truthfully they should, but they also need to make these games or they won't have anything to publish.
