I've heard rumours that a lot of Crytek's revenue comes from "serious gaming" aka people like the US Army license CE3 for training simulators, that kinda thing. I don't know how true that is though.
THQ... Next Crytek?

blackdog Valve and Blizzard are different beasts. Valve has steam as a major revenue stream. And they both release on console. Why is Blizzard porting D3? not for tech reasons only that's for sure.
Blizzard reasoning probably boils down to the D3 port being a tech demo for them to prepare Heros of the Storm for consoles to beat LoL and Dota 2 to market in the console industry section. First in, tons of money plus an already installed user base (not to mention those without the pc's to handle it). Online streaming built into the platforms. The shifting playstyles (in comparison). Makes sense to me on its face.
As for CryTek itself -- while I am not familiar with their particular condition or market performance -- they have priced themselves attractively to "indie" mid-level studios and AAA studios compared with UE4. It will certainly be interesting to see the long-term reaction to these new price points as well as shifting government subsidies (I.E. Montreal) possibly leading to further strengthening of European developers. Conditions may in fact be better than they were previously for CryTek to reclaim some lost market share by incentivizing studios further in private deals.
Found this tidbit for CryTek:
QuoteDisplay MoreA Crytek spokesperson issued Eurogamer the following statement:
"Regardless of what some media are reporting, mostly based on a recent article published by GameStar, the information in those reports and in the GameStar article itself are rumors which Crytek deny.
"We continue to focus on the development and publishing of our upcoming titles Homefront: The Revolution, Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, Arena of Fate, and Warface, as well as providing ongoing support for our CryEngine and its licensees.
"We have received a lot of positive feedback during and after E3 from both gaming press and gamers, and would like to thank our loyal employees, fans and business partners for their continuous support."

With the succes of Warface, I want to call this article bullshit, but I don't know a lot about Crytek to be honest.

I think mail.ru takes 60% of money from Warface.
About World of tanks, Wargaming have 380mln euro(not dollars) for 2013 year, and they not need to pay for tax, they have(already bought) commercial bank on a Cyprus.

Some things are already mentioned here but this gave me a nice overview of what's going on:
QuoteFrankfurt based Crytek has moved to deny claims that it's on the verge of bankruptcy.
The company has issued a statement in response to a GameStar report which suggested its future was in doubt following the "disaster" that was Ryse: Son of Rome and a painful transition to free-to-play games. Amidst the reported troubles, Belarusian World of Tanks maker Wargaming has reportedly considered making a takeover bid, while "vultures" have been said to be circling Crytek in a bid to acquire talent. Eurogamer also claims to have heard from sources prior to E3 that staff at Crytek's Sofia office in Bulgaria hadn't received salaries for two months, and that Crytek UK may have to have failed to pay employees on time. However, the GameStar report also said Crytek was hopeful of securing new investment, and Eurogamer claims a Chinese firm may have tabled an offer that would secure the company's future - in the short term at least. Responding to the claims, a Crytek spokesperson told Eurogamer: "Regardless of what some media are reporting, mostly based on a recent article published by GameStar, the information in those reports and in the GameStar article itself are rumors which Crytek deny.

Warface, at its core is actually a solid MP shooter, It has some decent maps and the team class mechanics work well.
The problem is everything else, poor web interface, lack cheat protection, 3RD person spectator view, pay 2 win in competitive mode.
I hope Crytek are not in trouble, I'm really looking forward to Homefront 2.
-
This is a pretty damaging rumor, regardless of merit, for any public company. Feel sorry for Crytek.

-
Kotaku has done some further digging, it's not sounding great:
-
Very bad!
I hope Crytek will be ok
-
Hope some cool studios emerge from this or that a decent company buys Crytek and its tech
-
Guys believe it or not, Crytek isn't dead yet.
-
Well, if there are any problems I believe they are directly related to shoe-horning the Y into Rise.

In all seriousness, I do think Crytek have taken a few weird turns at times. The vision to wholly transition into free-to-play didn't sit right with me but, luckily, it seems like they aren't really moving towards it anymore (or?). In any case, I hope that the rumors are off and that CryCore is safe.

There's too much stuff popping up everywhere for this to be false. I hope all employees will land on their feet.
But seriously, there's no smoke without fire guys!

Vilham
800 people to make a F2P games is VERY excessively!
Be ready to recession.
P.S. Yeah! Wargaming have a 2400 workers with 380mln euro in year. But they collect all this people after World of tanks was number one in the world. On game release they had 200 employees.
-
world of tanks employment is probably is 30% dev, 10% management 60% marketing/customer service
-
Any multiplayer game is going to have a ton of customer service staff, though.
I'm not surprised that Ryse hurt Crytek, considering it was rushed out for the launch of a flop console. It's certainly not the first time a publisher tanked a developer's future for their own short term goals. I would be shocked if they'd managed to break even on that project, considering how expensive it looked and how panned it was.
Personally, I can't imagine any console exclusivity contract being worth it for any developer not owned by the platform holder, or without some kind of contingency clause where the publisher takes on the risk of the project, due to the artificially restricted sales.

QuoteA number of staff at Crytek UK have not been paid their full salary since April 21st, a source connected to the matter has told Develop.
The source, who has ties with the studio, said since April, employees had received small payments of around £700 last month. At the time they had been told a deal was being made to secure money from Deutsche Bank, but that was since delayed.
Eeek. Doesn't sound good if true
