Hey guys, it's been a while since I posted here (in May or so ?). I've been following a bit the activities on the forum. So many cool maps created!

I wanted to give some news of what happened those last few months.

Still at Ubisoft Annecy but I got a permanent contract now ? I've been assigned many technical tasks, working on improving pipepline through tools. This shit is super exciting! Super good feedback for management, tasks are fun and atmosphere is very friendly (btw we're still looking for level designers and level artists here ;) )

For the french speakers, I've launched a podcast called Meet The Dev in which I interview people working in the game industry (if french speakers are interested to participate, contact me!)

I'm also writing a book! It is a book about how to get a job in the industry where I talk about speciliazed schools, Cv, portfolio but also professionnal attitude, application, networking etc. I try to cover everything to create the master "guide" (i don't like to say guide). I hope it will be interesting for people willing to get into the industry. I've been willing to do that for a long time and i'm very happy I finally started to do it. It's a big retropecctive on what have happen in my life for the past years ^^ I've been reading many books about personal developement lately and as i'm starting to work with schools, I thought it would be a super good tool to make a universal book about game industry's "secrets' and hidden truths about recruitment. there are big parts of "Open your eyes!" for newbies.

Yeah I said it, I'm getting in touch with game schools in France to make some lessons. Normally I'll be starting that beginning of next year ! I'm super happy about that too! It's mainly a personal goal but i'll may be under the ubisoft flags for few lessons.

Oh and those personal development books... man it has changed my life. Honestly, reading those has been a big change of perspective on how to achieve objective. The best two i've read are "The 7 habits of highly efficient people" and "the Magic of seeing big". It has put me in an amazingly good mood and I'm doing averything to keep on with like that. I can only recommend to read them!

And last but not least, I've been training to get into the real estate investment. I'm planning to buy my first appartment next year to rent it. I'll do good quality flats don't worry. I'm not a fucker that rent shit.

Wow, didn't expect to write that much ahah ?

Still nocitine free, since february. Can't believe i actually made it this time. The backside of not using it is that i ate alot more, so i've gained 15 kilos in weight over theese months. Took some time but my slow and stupid mind slowly realized, that i have to like myself to actually get confidence again and find a woman. So, im down 5 kilos now. Don't really know where this motivation came from but i've been eating around 1500 calories / day and walking/lifting weights. Seems to do the trick just fine.

Well, since this darn Post Strike started here in Canada, my shipments I ordered are coming later than I had hoped. Thankfully yesterday I got one of my packages! It was full of nice flags (Y'all probably know me because I released all those flag packs :D)

This is one of my favorite flags that I got: The East German/GDR flag! (And I can't seem to get the anthem out of my head, it's like it has become embedded in my brain ?)

The content cannot be displayed because it is no longer available.

And since it came from Germany, the package included a small bag of Haribo candies! (Oh boy do I love those, and yes they do sell them here in Canada! :D)

Wait ! There is no Haribo in Canada ? Or it's more expansive ? I need to know because I'm actually leaving France for Canada in a few months for an undetermined time. :D

Oh don't you worry, Haribo is in Canada for a rather low price :) I would have never known just how tasty it is if my German grandmother never got me hooked on it XD

I think that I didn't do well enough in the calculus 2 exam to pass............................ mathematics is like that. You may understand the theory behind, but the exercise may contain a little detail that tricks you or requires a little step that you are not aware of.

My girlfriend is currently presenting the demo we created to R.R. Martin, not sure what to think about that. I can't help but be excited, even though it doesn't really mean anything. Fame is weird.

Haven't been here in a while. However I read an amazing paper on path tracing that made me wanted to share it here since it opens in my opinion a boulevard to true realtime path-tracing for games! Artists will loooooooove path tracing, and so will gamers if we finally manage to make it happen!

Anyway, the paper is on learning the light distribution through a neural network more or less. It works very well and is quite impressive.

    (Paper link )

It is an elegant idea that we shouldn't look light as camera dependent but for what it actually is in physics: a vector field (Well in practice it'd be magnetic and electric field, so two fields (but same thing) ). As soon as you have this, all the information you need can be precomputed, you can hope to infer pixel values fast for static scenes, and here on have interactive frame rates when the hardware follows.

Anyhow. Hope it got everyone excited as much as it did for me and have a good day everyone!

Well I'm not sure how much I can share, but R.R. Martin is from Santa Fe and invested a few millions into a local art collective called Meow Wolf a few years ago. With that money, they made a park that I can only describe as "psychedelic Disneyland for adults where you can touch anything and go anywhere", and had a lot of success with it, so they're repeating the process in Vegas and Denver (bigger parks, more craziness). I've been working with them for a few months and that internal "vertical slice" (that I can't share details about) is now being presented to a bunch of stakeholders and investors, and yesterday was R.R. Martin's turn. He apparently seemed impressed hehe. This is going to be an interesting year!

They released a documentary on how the first park was created, here's the trailer:

I wanted to see how quickly Twitter would act. My second tweet with the #learntocode hashtag got my account locked for “harassment”. Btw my tweet wasn’t directed at journalists or anyone in particular, I was just following up on the recent Activision firings with a post intended as satire, but does seem that people are overly salty about an hashtag, and/or Twitter mods don’t bother to look at things in context.

I cant shake the feeling of how fascist this “ultra progressive” platforms/discussion groups are, when you challenge them just a little bit. This really bothers me, would someone get flagged for promoting their own course for example?

The full podcast can be found here and it’s enlighting and enraging at the same time to hear about the hypocritical stance the platform holders take on subjects like these.

Sometimes I dream that the world would be a much better place if Twitter was nuked from existence.
