We had company party last Friday, and going back home in a tram somehow I did lost my wallet. Was super angry, it never has happened to me before. Thanks to that, I had pretty shity weekend. Early Monday, I had a phone call and it turned out some nice lady found it in a tram, and want to give it back to me. I went to her place, she gave me the wallet, and of course I wanted to give her some cash for being so nice, but she refused.
Super nice family! That was a close one.
Looking at FB late Monday evening, I saw that I have unread msg, and it turned out, they was trying to reach me via FB since Saturday evening. There are still good people on this planet !

I thought this would turn into a Hollywood love story. I'm quite disappointed knj.

So after a Maltese platter, a pizza, and two bottles of wine, I had to clean up after my girlfriend sick. (The sink doesn't drain properly in the apartment we booked.)

I'm still up just in case she's sick again…

    Quote from Sprony

Just wait until she's pregnant. Then you can spend you time holding her hair while trying to eat your own food without throwing up as well. Good times.

You know it's love when you don't mind doing that.

I'm shocked that yet more refugees have drowned trying to escape the war in Syria. There's an image in the paper of a drowned 3 year old boy who was found on a Turkish beach. I have a daughter almost half that age. It's not often that I get emotional. In fact, I'm rather well known for being cold as ice. But this image brought me to tears. Tears which were soon replaced by rage when I started reading the comment sections on several sites. People applauding the fact that he and the others died. Because it meant less mouths to feed. The hatred against these refugees is mind blowing. I've never had a lot of faith in humanity but now there's little left. I'm ashamed of Europe, it's policies and a lot of the selfish monsters who populate it's continent.

Here's the link for those who care. But be warned.

The UK is so closed to migration it's unreal. It's toxic and I despise it.

However, while I don't condone the way Europe as a whole are handling the situation, more needs to be done to stabilise the regions people are coming from as a long term goal. Relocating entire countries isn't sustainable.

Happy, safe people don't want to leave their homes or countries.

Yeah...I've had exactly the same reaction than you. I think when we are parent we change our point of view with this kind of news in the way that, perhaps, we are more sensitive.

About the comments and all the things we can read / see I really hope that the silence majority of people doesn't think like that. Often the minority is the most noisy than the majority.

Europe cannot do much except helping these countries getting back on their feet, I agree on that!

you can imagine any system to prevent migration, that won't stop people trying, and the more effective the system is, the more dead bodies there are. all of that because we think these in a disuasive approach, but if someone has nothing to lose, he will try and die anyway

and @El Moroes, fortunately you always hear more the one drunken idiot rather than the hundreds of common good peoples.

Finally, @Sprony, the fact that this selfishness is in place is because Europe feels threatened. What is sad is that while Europe is a wonderful place to live in, with social advantages, fundamental rights etc, all of these people who feel threatened only care about their money, because they see in that their survival, and they end up acting like animals enjoying the death of others because that means they can still eat, excepting that animals aren't that cruel. Thus as long as the economy is the fundamental value, these ridiculous behavior will happen. In my opinion, you should have faith in the future intellectuals, who could bring another way of living, which wouldn't be as efficient, but would be more fair and respectful of others. (Maybe it's my youth talking, but I have faith in that)

I appreciate the serious discussion guys. I mean it.

For the record, @jackophant, I'm not claiming the problem is Europe. Of course, the source is the instability in the region, something that needs to be dealt with. Having ever body move here isn't a option. I'm also not blind to the financial repercussions this has. However, I'm mad about our policies and lack of effort in trying to save those people. They say it's too expensive but throwing billions down a bottomless well called Greece is no problem at all. Plus, what really bothers me is how the population responds. Nobody should be cheering on someone else his/her death. Especially children, who are our future.

I suppose I'm more sensitive like @El Moroes said, it's certainly something I noticed after I became a father. Guess I'm not alone. Also, I think you put it very eloquently @laminutederire. I also applaud the positivity and faith. I'm not that old, but I've seen too much shit to share that sentiment.

What is government if not riddled with hypocrisy?

I think we can blame a sensationalist media as well. Newspapers in England typically associated with the whole idea that England as a country would flip on it's axis due to the sheer weight of the immigrants landing on our borders have now suddenly all this compassion. They spin whatever sells, and anti-immigration is flavour of the decade.

In a world where we could do so much to help all around us, we are increasingly looking inwards and closing ourselves off to the world. Sad times are ahead, let's hope we can ride them out before we let ISIS take over the world.

(especially since the money is mostly for greek banks)

I wasn't saying you were old, but the sole fact that you have a job since a few years gave you the opportunity to be disappointed, while I'm still in the educational bubble, which confronted me only to a certain type of people who are less likely to support such ridiculous statements, especially because some of them are foreigners from the middle east, and talking with them allow to have an inside image of the situation, even if I'm aware that, where they come from, they have high social statuses.

I would speculate that this is just another way to get approval to intervene in war scenarios caused behind the scenes by the same people that want to intervene in those areas.
