Yesterday was fucking scary. The baby got her first two shots and she didn't respond well to them. Eventually she went out cold and we had to rush to the doctor. Luckily, she came out of it a couple of hours later and everything is fine now. But that nearly gave me a heart attack.

Oh crap. Would she have died if you hadn't taken her to the doc?

As the financial crisis in my uni continues, the staff workers adopted a new tactics: they choosing one building per day and then closing its doors forcibly to prevent ppl from going in or out. Today they choose the building where I'd have had numerical calculus. No classes today for me.

    Oh shit, that's scary.

My cat's been sick for the past few days and I barely got any sleep those nights (since his breathing is really bad it sounds like he's gonna suffocate anytime). He's better now, but goddamn, I can't imagine how stressful it must be to have a baby.

I guess once they start understanding a few words it gets better though right?

No. Although her reaction was far from normal and it is something we have to monitor for the next shots, it eventually wasn't life threatening. Her body reacted to the shot by basically freezing her and putting her in a deep almost coma like state. Only after severe stimulants did she give the smallest of reactions, like twitching a finger or something. This lasted 4 hours. The funny thing is that the moment we arrived at the emergency room and I went up to the counter she opened her eyes and started laughing. What a troll. Then when the doctor examined her she crapped on the thermometer.

Thanks man. Well, it honestly felt as if I grew five years older in one day.

I certainly hope so. My baby had the same as your cat. Hospital said it was normal because she was adjusting to breathing actual air and that all babies do that. But I couldn't simply accept that. The first few nights I didn't sleep at all. I just said next to crib checking if she was still breathing.

I'm told it gets better the older they get. Less fragile and more resilient. Plus, you have more experience as a parent and worry less. But yeah, them being able to talk sure would make things easier. Good luck with your cat btw. I have four and I love them like crazy. So yeah, I wouldn't sleep well either.

You can't have that unless your partner remains calm. One of the two has to remain focused on what to do. So even if you feel that panic and pressure, somehow, like genetically or something, your parent instinct kicks in and you become a man with a mission. At least that's what happened to me.

Been offered a job at Ubisoft to work on The Division which is awesome, but the pay is less than what I'm currently on, it's a 6 month fixed contract, and I would have to relocate. So...hmm...not sure what to do. Very tough call to make!

Is that at Ubisoft UK (reflections)? It's tough because its an awesome title, but if from UK you're not the main core designers.

On the one hand you'll get some more AAA experience which could be a stepping stone to better work but don't take a pay cut for it imo...

You should be able to negotiate this, if they really want you they'll try to match it. Did they come with an offer for you or did you come to them?

The Division has also been struggling so I'm not sure it'll be that fulfilling to work on but maybe they fixed the kinks in their team... Hearsay isn't the most reliable and lots of projects deal with issues during the start of development, definitely for new IP´s.

Also if it's not the Swedish studio we're talking about then I'm not sure it's such a good idea. You'll want to be at the head office. If it is then maaaaaybe cos there's a lot of developers in Sweden (Stockholm) although not Malmö where they're located.

During the recent period of uncertainty surrounding my job at Crytek I had to apply to a load of studios. I did the test for Reflections as well as the interviews and was eventually offered a 12 month contract. During the interview process though more information came to light about the potential split from Crytek to Dambuster Studios, and as a result I found myself in a position where I felt I didn't need the Ubi job as a backup anymore, as working things out here was my main priority if a possibility.

The reason I'm saying this is because when I replied to Ubi to decline their job offer, in the reply I mentioned (politely of course) that I was I was a little disappointed in the contract term offered - it would involve moving my life to Newcastle from Nottingham and also moving my girlfriend there, meaning she would have to change job, and in the end after 12 months I could end up having to move again. A few days later they replied and offered me a permanent contract instead.

Now I'm not saying to decline the job offer based on this at all, as you are running the risk of them not coming back with a better offer. However, if you feel that you are in a position where you have a job that is perfectly good (Jagex?) that you wouldn't really mind staying at, and you aren't 100% sold on the terms of the Ubi position, then maybe it's worth a shot. You wouldn't even have to decline it, you could just write to them and express your concerns.
