Fortnite (new game by Epic Games)

    Fortnite has such an incredible success that is mind blowing. I’ve actually seen courses for parents to understand what this game is. There’s much concern of addiction and there’s real monetary problemematic implications that can happen when people are not educated of their options.

    Ultimately it’s the parents fault, but I don’t think that game developers can be “hands off - this is not our problem”: a system that can cause situations like the above has faults.

    Yeah, parents really shouldn't put their credit card details into their kids accounts. If they really want Xbox Live Gold or PS+ buy a voucher for their kid to put into their account and if they want the kid to buy skins and shit give them gift cards. At least you'll know how much is being spent that way.

    I guess it is hard for parents to understand. My parents wouldn't understand it and they've watched me grow up playing every game under the sun. Fortnite has come out of nowhere too and every kid plays it, it must be hard for parents to keep up with.

    I installed it myself a couple of weeks ago to see what the hype was about but I couldn't get into it. I really dislike the building aspect, like how you can instantly build protection around you. I was way too late to join and people were just building crazy shit whilst I was trying to shoot them. The skins and dances and shit are really cool though. I can see why kids want it all.

    unfortunately parents of today, despite dealing with tech all the time (=using a phone every minute) don’t understand the inner workings. The article doesn’t say on what platform this specific episode happened, I kinda assume is iOS, since tablets are way more popular for youngsters, and I am sure the App Store has a setting for requiring approval (notification on parents phone) when the kid tries to buy something. So I was wondering if is possible to bypass this or is just not set by most people. If you don’t know it exists you are not gonna think of asking in the shop for help setting it up(!).

    I was thinking of trying it as well, just to see if I can shoot some heads… but I’m too lazy to even finish games I have installed and just grind on CSGO ?

    I think the building idea is cool on its own, but what I’ve seen in clips doesn’t excite me.
