Recruiting process vs salary

Thanks one and all! Your sympathy is heart-warming!

Would this survey be a part of the forum? Like maybe some extra fields in the Profile and you can fill it out with your current salary per year (in dollars), position and then have a field if you want it to be public or not (show up in your profile if people look). I think it would look bad to have it displayed under the avatar as there's already so much info there.
Then Thrik could just pull all the data and have it listed on the front page or something. That way we'd have full control over this data instead of using some third party survey think that might or might not get updated.

There are problems with the Big Mac index, mostly the fact that the cost of big macs is not adjusted by McDonald's with inflation every year, and remains essentially identical throughout very different economic zones.

i like the idea of this being mapcore account linked to make sure it doesn't get trolled but feel at the same time that this info shouldn't be on the account here and also limits the survey possibility to extend this at some point once we figure out the math.
i guess an anonymous google survey would do better...

I think we should look away from surveys personally, since we won't have conversion ratings and results won't get translated. And rather than creating different sites with the same idea, have one centralized place where people can go to. Having a survey that is different on every site (especially considering that LDs aren't the only devs we're appealing to) is going to be messy.
I've PM'd you seir.

Thing is, if what you pay is effectively going to be in your future pocket, it's all good.
In Italy they are continuing to push the retirement date forward, I don't think anyone of my generation is confident they are getting a pension at all, or not comparable to what they have payed through work.
Here council tax is (of course) separate (and varies town to town). Garbage is an additional tax/service. Now in a big part of the country we have door to door differentiated garbage collection.
This is truly fucked up and will be a major problem in Europe. The Dutch have a reputation for solid pensions but that time is gone too. People are getting older, so there are more people who we need to pay. More money out, less money in. The problem will not fix itself and nobody wants to do something about it. The old people have always paid and deserve their retirement. It's unfair to ask them to work longer or receive less.
However, our generation now has to pay more and work longer. Something I can agree with (due to us living longer). But it doesn't make a difference. It's too little too late. Which means by the time we should get our retirement there's nothing left (which isn't fair either). So eventually we'll have to pay for nothing and besides that try and save a little for ourselves on the side. It's no win situation.

all the money should go towards science and technology !!!
if we have effectively cured/treated arthritis out of exists by the age i hit 60-70 i wouldn't mind working until i drop dead actually!

Don't really agree that the old people should necessarily get what they think they deserve. If you invest in a financially unsustainable scheme and elect people on unattainable promises that's your problem and shouldn't be the responsibility of people not yet born. You don't get a free pass for being stupid enough to believe in infinite growth.

that would be great. Although any advances made would be stuck in a mire of patent law.

The problem is that is what the government promised. I'm not saying to trust the government blindly but that certainly is the case.
Also the whole concept of social security could work. It just looks like the current real world implementations are doomed to fail.

Just use the Big Mac factor. That should qualify for most countries.
Well taking the price of Bic-Mac as reference point for comparing live standards will send Czech republic in the category of 3rd World country. The prices of fast-food are ridiculously overpriced here (maybe, because they are trying to market them as "restaurants"), but if you take the beer as constant for this comparison, then I think even the Sweden will stay far behind

I vote for beer factor !

...Carlsberg factor?

Can you please refresh my memory on why a high price indicates your country is poor?
I find junk food chains expansive in Italy - for the quality they actually offer.
When I was in Namibia (and had trips to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana) McD hadn't yet open venues there. There were other chains (Wimpy and Lion-something) and I think prices were comparable (never actually had industrial burgers – I was already eating antelope burgers at friends…).
KFC and Nando's instead were popular (they are mad for chicken there) and price seemed very fair.
Demand-offer is just one aspect, a business has to see what competition is doing, and even if you are the only seller of a good you have to take in account the purchasing power of people and popularity of your product… can't sell Coke in the most remote corner and price it like if it was Prosecco
…or maybe you can, if the fraction of sales you make, do profit you more than selling loads cheap. It all depends on the peculiarities of the market you are selling to. -
For me Fast food factor is an indicator.
Quick match, Subway in Murica (foot long) cost 5$, here in Poland it cost over 20 zl (over 7 $). Here in Poland in regular work you need to work around an hour to earn for it. 5$ in States was like hmm 15 min ?
Number don't make value for money, value is how much of stuff you can buy for some amount of cash. As I always say having 100$ in states, 100euro in Holland/Belgian ect, and 100 zlotych in Poland (when I'm abroad I always get 1-1 ratio with money. Not doing that would get me to never go outside my country) you will buy less much shit here in Poland.

Sorry that I confused you. Actually how I meant it is that Big Mac it does not have the same value in each country. In USA it is the cheapest of meals and its price compared to avg. salary is low. Here is marketed as meal from restaurant and its price to avg. salary is high, even it is not worth it. So Big Mac is not the etalon for estimating living standards, but that isn't probably almost anything anyway, so maybe sticking to Big Mac factor is still OK.
As contrast I have stated the beer-factor, which is ridiculously cheap here, so by that factor we would appear much richer than anybody else
