Fake money, aka facebook shares. Don't think the company has actually turned a profit yet.

The intention is way beyond gaming. In fact, the gaming aspect of it was probably a rounding error in the analysis inside FB that resulted in the buy decision.

Facebook has been getting more profitable each quarter. Diluted EPS has gone from $.03/share to $.20/share in a year.

yeah not saying it's worthless but it's definitely worth less than pure cash. (edit) There's most likely some period of time they won't be able to sell the stock.

You gotta be fucking kidding me. As i see it VR will be something very sensitive to privacy. Ther's a camera involved, ppl gonna watch porn etc. I don't want that shit connected to FB and the NSA! And i don't want ads in my view or whatever crap they come up with. Way to hurt VR hype in its still fragile infancy!

this is good, Sony already have a headset just as good as this, so it's been cloned already. If it takes off we'll have tons of options for hardware, there's no such thing as buying the rights to prevent others from doing it - the entire tech world is in an endless legal battle already that never gets resolved.

Hopefully this exposure will kick start the industry, it's only a good thing in the long run.
