So far I've only managed to get up to around 40 people, I keep on restarting every day because I'm a perfectionist hehe!

How many woodcutters do you have? You might need to get a couple more woodcutters to allow faster production. Are you running out of trees/logs? Or are your people just consuming more wood than you're producing?

Seems like the woodcutters never cut firewood fast enough. But that could be because people in my town generally have to walk quite a bit to get to the nearest stockpile, and since the woodcutters can't cope with demand they never have any stock. That causes people to be always picking small quantities instead of stashing their homes with firewood for long periods of time. I guess a market would fix that problem but I have no space for it .

By the way, a nice trick is to get hunters cabins as early as possible, they provide leather which a tailor can use to make clothes which have a really high price when trading. (You are going to need a lot of those to acquire your first seeds/livestock on hard)

Anyways, restarting again and let's see how far I can take this new one

This is a city builder, just like Sim City where the goal is just to build. I don't remember ever playing those scenarios in Sim City I wouldn't worry about that in the long run, they are going to add mod support soon and I expect the community to make some really crazy modes. Hoping they get steamworks support for that.

I've been struggling to have more than 130 people in my towns. I can never get enough firewood, and every 10 years or so famine suddenly strikes and half my population is gone. I even had a tornado right after I controlled a famine which reduced my town to 20 people or so lol

Pogos, how are you dealing with food and materials when you expand? Everytime I expanded too fast that bit me in the ass later on... I can never get enough firewood, even though I upgraded most of the houses to stone. I guess the problem is that I don't have a market in the city's center.

This has far more in common with Pharaoh than sim city. Pharaoh or Caesar both had campaigns that were great and made each mission enjoyable and challenging.

I have 144 people at the moment and 3 woodcutters, 2 markets provide for my town. Never seem to have a shortage, infact cut wood is one of my main exports with tools and clothes. Half my houses are stone half are wood.

Yeah, I started a new town and this one is going much much better. I basically have 2 forests now, one for food and another for wood. My foresters are set to plant only, whenever I need wood I just tear down one of the forests.

A good tip is to always have more jobs available than people working in food production. Whenever my food drops below 3000 I just add another worker in those professions so I'm never expanding at full capacity (this mistake costed me several other cities before).

Careful placement of markets, stockpiles and slow expansion are making this city much more efficient and safe

Got 170 people now, passed up on 29 nomads as I didn't think I would be able to support them at the moment. Need to expand some more resource posts for food and wood with some houses first.

    This game is not easy

After going through the tutorials (after reading here I thought it wouldn't hurt) and starting my first level at "medium" it didn't take long before my village froze to death. The second one died from starvation.

Then I set every option to as easy as possible and eventually my villagers died one by one of old age. Just noone to produce offspring. Health was more than OK, but happiness went down the shitter slowly

    Fourth time's a charm!

hehe I made the same mistake before. If there are no empty houses, people won't start their own families and subsequently no kids will be born. No one likes to fuck in front of their parents, as a wise Rick_D once said.

That makes so much sense, it makes me feel silly that it never occured to me Works out a lot better when I build a house or two every now and then
