Hey all. These were posted on the TS boards, but it has been said that HL1 would most likely not be able to handle it. Thus, I am posting these here (not mine, but my friend didn't want to have to register), in hopes that someone will create this lovely map.

the point isn't to critique the art (he knows he doesn't paint landscapes very well, but he does great characters), but to discuss the possibility of this to be created...

maybe it should go in the level design forum then.

The jungle wouldn't work out, unless you build it as a flat wall with a jungle texture on it but dense vegetation as in models wouldn't work on such a scale.

I'm wondering how good someone can make a jungle with the hl2 engine

As for the other stuff, the terrain could be done with triangles and all the props could be modeled. But then again you have those big trees in the map and some of those small objects look pretty detailed...I would probably lay down the terain and build the building and then see how many polies I got to spare, but overall since the map looks rather small it's nothing impossible.

if just hl2 got the MOH: PA shadow engine so the jungle would be no problem :megamon:

yeah, I was hesitant in putting it here, because it wasn't an actual map at this stage, and didn't want to get flamed for putting it here...thanks for moving it.

    hl1 engine laffo

I've gone through enough pain with the limitations of that engine to make a another map for it after all that time

except far cry isnt set in a chinese temple garden.

i like the pics but they look very rushed but leave room for imagination. I like this asian theme too asian sytle textures = fun

Looks awfully limited in terms of connectivity - seems more like a big circle than anything. That said, TS seems to work without much choice in flow, so I guess its maybe not a concern.

Map looks feasible in the HL engine, particularly if you kept it small scale. For example, if that building was a small pagoda or something as opposed to a large hall. Would be difficult to make it look good and run well with that layout, but there are people around that could manage it I'm sure.

Could this become a sticky thread for all kinds of Level Design concept art?

Other forums have such threads too, and i think it`s a nice source of inspiration.

HL1 would be shit with this. Horrid, ugly, etc. HL2 I think could do it with some artistic licence taking.

TS works with lots of layour, provided that you can use the stunts to modify your route a bit. Due to stunts and movement in general, stuff that would be hateful in most mods, works fine in TS, then again, there are special considerations to be taken into concern when making a TS map, space for movement, people jumping all over the shop and screwing your carefully nulled geometry etc.

imo MOH:PA shadow engine is better then source, mest becouse the player cant se its one shadow(aswell as model) and dont have an "dynamic" shadow that is affekted by all the lights in the map like props an brushes do.

    someone worse then me

i think source can beat the old Quake3 engine which MOH was on i belive ;o~

but yeah people would have seen me say this alot source does seem to lack in shadows on alot of things i would expect shadows maybe farcry and doom3 spoiled us for shadows....then again ut2k4 has pretty cool lighting.

I think ultimately this guy wanted it to be for TS, but at this point, with the limitations of the HL2 engine, he would just like to see it made for an engine capable (farcry, HL2, etc).
