If the latter... it's not exactly clear, but before events went to shit, the protesters marched to the Parliament building and demanded the parties discuss a draft of the 2004 constitution in an effort to curb Yanukovich's powers...

I would also like to know what really is happening from Ukrainian users, not from mainstream media or wikipedia. I remember that when the protests in Brazil took place most of the stuff I read online was distorted or complete bullshit.

Protesters have failed and been kicked out of Nikolayev, Kharkov, Odessa and Zaporozhye and the Crimea is seeking to leave Ukraine for Russia if shit hits the fan.

This is like history repeating itself... people didn't agree on Yanukovich winning the elections in 2004 so the Orange Revolution followed and then Viktor resigned and Yukashenko became the rightful president instead and he completely failed in all expectations.. so they voted Yanukovich in and now they've decided they don't want him anymore (again)... Tough! Wait till 2015 and vote him out of office like we westerners do with our politicians. All this just because he wouldn't sign an agreement with the EU even though it was never officially written in stone anyway (that and not so insignificant part of the population oppose joining the EU). As if the EU would actually have Ukraine anyway... Turkey applied what... 30 years ago? Are they in yet? Nyet.

I find it hard to believe that the EU would allow them in. The country faces it's third financial crisis since 2008 and is highly depended on Russia's money and gas. The EU is already crippled by Greece, Spain and Italy. There's no sane reasoning in taking on another money pit.

These are just facts, not hating on the people or anything like that.

edit : alright fuck this i just watched 2 videos of people actually dying from gunshots in that reddit list(how terrible that may sounds, thanks internet), it's on the edge really, no wonder Ukrainians are pissed off. After such violences the government should have been dissolved if the well being of their population is actually their best interest, EU or not.

You're making a lot of valid points but painting a bleak picture for the Ukraine's prospects of joining the EU in the future by refering to Turkey's state in the negotation talks is ludicrous. Turkey has its own set of problems and you know that, I'm sure. For the records here's a list of countries who have succesfully joined the EU in the past 30 years:

Spain, Portugal, East Germany and West Berlin join to form Germany, Austria, Sweden, Finland, Malta, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia.

At the end of the day, as a part of the EU or not, the Ukrainian people have a right to an unbiased court system. TBH I don't know how rampant corruption is though or if this is an exaggeration to fuel the fire. I'm definitely for obeying the democratic process as long as the elections aren't rigged. It's still hard for me to understand what got these protesters so fired up. Is Janukowitsch really selling the Ukraine out to Russia for personal enrichment?

1. The Ukraine is a poor country, what she can give EU? Ukrainian production can't compete with the German or any Europe production. Ukraine have only charcoal.
