    Hello guyz !

You'll certainly ask <<What's the difference between this topic and the "Reference Thread" ? >>

Well, here the idea is to share personal photo of interesting looking material. It can be an Highlight on a wooden edge, a splatter on a plaster... everything you think is interesting and deserve interest. It isn't requiered but I think it could be nice to give some explanation of what you are posting when needed

My recommendation would be that you guys use the attachment feature. It auto-generates thumbnails for everything which should make this kind of thread smoother. Just go ahead and upload the full-size versions when using the full reply screen, the attachment bit is just below the main editing area. You can even highlight a load of files and upload them at once.

Let's start ! I begin with a little mix of photos from my travel to Japan and France =)

(Oh, and please, be kind with me, I have an old 6.3 mega pixel camera ^^' )

Nice idea for a thread...can never have too much reference material! I posted my texture repository in the reference thread recently, but I have a huge backlog of hundreds of images to sort out from a visit to an airplane salvage yard last year. Here's a few to share for now. These are full resolution images so they may take a little while to load!

Crane hook (raw metal with gashes, dents and damage)

    Crackly and damaged paintwork

    Thick mud splatters

    Peeling canvas/rubber/foam/adhesive

    Aluminium with rust and wear

    Dust and sand/grit accumulation

Mucky plastic paneling and cracking painted foam

    Peeling window coating

Shredded aircraft skin, some sort of painted fabric canvas or aluminium

These ones are from a building that was undergoing demolition, which offered some interesting surfaces:

Concrete floor, covered in floor tile adhesive

    Footprints in ink splatter

    Hose spigot

    Plaster/concrete wall

    Shiny, warped door plates

Foul grease and food waste accumulation underneath a grill/deep fryer

Awesome, there should be a website dedicated to killer reference photos for studying materials so I don't have to slug through all the shit photos on google and flickr.

Thrik: is there a way to make these images load faster? Perhaps thumbnails?

While a mod could go through and edit attachments into everyone's topics, it'd be better if you all did it yourselves as that way you'll be able to manage your own attachments properly. Still, I/someone can tidy up if there are huge images continuing to slow the thread down in a couple of days.

Perhaps you could put a note or quote of this post at the top kikette?

I've edited my post to include thumbnails and will follow this method from now on! I hope this speeds up the thread loading for everyone

Here are a handful of older material images from my archives.

    Weathered metal panel wall

Worn old pipe from a factory and wet, rain-soaked pipes from an abandoned quarry

    Glossy paint spec/reflection

Shiny metal sheet panels (somewhat warped)

    Marble, glossy

    Space shuttle fabric(?) panels

    Cracked rubber (tire)

A few new ones from the Easter holiday:

Oil? and grime accumulation on roadway

Contrast in aged/weathered paint on a fire alarm box (the cleaner area in the middle is protected by a panel which is normally closed)

    Water staining/grime on pottery

Grime accumulating around corners on smooth concrete floor

Waxed concrete floor in a hangar

A few new references to share:

    Snow accumulation on rough stones

Dust and grime on a metal rolling door

    Oiled wood cabinet

    Grimy steel/aluminium plate

Edge wear, grime, and scuffs on wooden double doors

Puddle on concrete (note depth on edges and splatters; otherwise smooth and glassy)

    Dusty concrete floor

    Worn painted metal control box

    Matte painted metal

Thick broken glass (not very reflective so note the opaqueness/transparency)
