So you get different powers depending on where you buy the game... That's so fucked up!

Actually stopped that trailer 3/4 the way through. Poor music and editing for promoting a LoTR licensed game in my opinion as it made it look like some random fantasy game to blend in with the rest of the market.
Looks like the guys at Monolith did a couple of new things here and did them really well. Congrats! http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=901820
Review round up:
Quote
- CVG: 9/10 - The Nemesis system alone is worth giving this a go, let alone the Lord Of The Rings setting. Better than every other LOTR game, never again will we settle for mediocrity when our favourite book/film licenses get picked up.
- GamesRadar: 4.5/5 - The overall package is this phenomenal. Shadow of Mordor isn't just the greatest Lord of the Rings game to date-- it's also one of the most entertaining open-world adventures around. By the time you've concluded Talion's journey, you'll feel like you've experienced your own personal odyssey through Middle-earth, locked in a struggle against adversaries that only you truly know.
- Polygon: 9.5/10 - Shadow of Mordor is that ultimate rarity. It tells a fun little story that would be enough to hold up most games on their own. But it also provides all of the tools to ensure that the most interesting tales to come out of the game will be the ones that were not scripted.
- GameSpot: 8/10 - This is a great game in its own right, narratively disjointed but mechanically sound, made up of excellent parts pieced together in excellent ways. I already knew what future lay in store for Middle-earth as I played Shadow of Mordor; I'm hoping that my own future might one day bring another Lord of the Rings adventure as stirring as this one.
- Eurogamer: 8/10 - One of the most enduring themes of Tolkien's universe has been the corrupting influence of power, but this has almost always been explored through the eyes of individuals that refuse to abuse that power. In death, Talion is free to do what those characters were never able to, and you experience first-hand what an intoxicating high that can be.
- IGN: 9.3/10 - Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor stands out from other open-world action games by putting a great new layer on top of the trail that Batman blazed. I was surprised at how well it integrates its excellent combat with rewarding feedback and progression not just for me, but also for my enemies.
- Destructoid: 6/10 - Although Monolith's heart is in the right place and the studio honors the lore, it doesn't really add anything that's worth seeing outside of some solid open world gameplay. It isn't a bad game, it just feels far too repetitive for its own good.
- Kotaku: No score - Modor wants to be great game more than a satisfying bit of fan-service, so it invites you and its orcs to buy into its campy fiction together. That way, you can both have more fun. I think that's the sort of youthful exuberance The Lord of the Rings universe needs rights now. As the Hobbit movies wind slowly to a close, Shadow of Mordor boldly asserts itself as a new beginning.
- Joystiq: 5/5 - What would have otherwise been a competent sandbox game with solid combat mechanics and an interesting twist on a known fantasy world is elevated by the Nemesis System. Shadow of Mordor is the strategic person's action game.
- ShackNews: 9/10 - Shadow of Mordor is influenced by other games, but not defined by them. Instead it takes pieces from some of the best games of the last few years, augments them with RPG mechanics and the new Nemesis system, and integrates them all so well together that it's sometimes hard to tell where one system begins and another ends. It's a remarkable achievement.
- GameTrailers: 8.7/10 - The world feels alive and treacherous, the combat gives you lots of gruesome options, and the enemy army is always evolving. It might not offer the challenge you crave, but if you enjoy killing orcs, there are two maps filled with the savage monsters and they're all looking for a fight.
- EGM: 8.5/10 - The landscapes and exploration elements might not be on the level of some of its open-world brethren, but Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor delivers one of the best games to feature the intricate lore of J.R.R. Tolkien-and its innovative, addictive Nemesis system could redefine the way developers design enemy encounters in the future.
- Game Informer: 8.25/10 - Shadow of Mordor is an unabashedly challenging and complex experience, sometimes at the expense of accessibility. I'm thrilled that we've got a new franchise in the fertile ground of Tolkien's fiction. Add in a borderline revolutionary approach to mission design, and this is a firm foundation for a stellar new series.
- GamesTM: 8/10 - Shadow of Mordor might owe something of a debt to numerous games that have come before it, but by adding its own flavour to the mixture the result is a surprisingly expansive and hearty experience that is more compelling than plenty that have come before it. A hugely entertaining, tongue-in-cheek and fulsome experience, it's a worthy expedition whether you're a Rings fan or not.
- GamesBeat: 80/100 - I don't want to turn everyone off of it. I think Shadow of Mordor deserves a huge audience. I like it bordering on loving it. Had Monolith tightened up a few things, I'd probably love it bordering on considering it one of the best games of the year.
Aye, heard a bunch of people at E3 talking about this being a potential dark horse for 2014, but I haven't really paid that much attention to it. Gonna pick it up next week~~
I can't tell from the reviews what kind of game this actually is, they tend to leave out the basics. Does anyone know how RPG this actually is? Or is it more hack and slash?
Well hot dayyyyyyum those are some good reviews! I wonder if they're legit though. I wasn't overly interested in this but it's piqued my interest now, might get it next week ![]()

How is it?
Played a bit of this at lunch today, it seems really good so far! The nemesis system seems really good. Gonna play a bit more now ![]()
Very tempted to get this. Even though it represents Middle Earth rather poorly (in my opinion) This could be any game really with some orcs. But looks really polished and fun and the PC port is getting congratulated for actually being a good port for once!
Damn, this game is fuckin awesome. I haven't played many of the Assassin's Creed games so I'm not sure how similar it is, but the combat feels so epic. Feels like you're actually battling countless numbers of Orcs. The boss stuff is incredible, every enemy feels really unique! Can't wait to play more!
K, liam sold it to me. Will purchase when pay cheque arrives ![]()
I only played it for a bit before I got sucked back into cs:go. It's too addicting.
I'll keep you guys posted!
/ journal entry #1
Played it at EGX, it seemed ok, but definately not a full price purchase.
I worked on this game for maybe 2 years, it has come a really long way since I left! Combat is pretty solid and the orc models look great. Glad they really stuck with the nemesis system, it seems really interesting and unique. Lots of bugs though. Only played about 30 minutes so I am curious to see the scope of the game.
