AUT development stops - Action legacy ends

This is probably the toughest news post I have had to prepare for the Action community and therefore I will not beat around the bush. Development on Action Unreal Tournament has terminated and the Action brand has been put on a long term hiatus.

The decision was reached last week during discussions with leading members of Akimbo Team Productions and the AUT development team agreed with all their conclusions. There are simply not enough people playing the mod to warrant another 18 months of daily commitment to the project. Furthermore, the team feel it is in the best interest to put the Action franchise on hold indefinitely and no other team will be given permission to take over development or use the Action name in future mod projects. Please understand that this decision was not easy and that the whole team are very proud of Action Unreal Tournament and appreciate all community support during the year and a half. It is a shame that this is how it ends but we hope you still try out the mod and spread the word.

Please mail me if you have any questions and come by #aut on irc.gamesurge.net to join us in 7 days of mourning!

Although I must admit I have never tried AUT, I was a fan of the series as a whole. I used to play lots of AHL, back in the days when it was one of the first HL mods out there and also in its later stages of development. I haven't played so much of AQ2 but it was cool too. Sad to see that it's over now

Same here, I've never played the UT versions but I was an Action HL fan.

I was however looking forward to seeing a John Woo/bullet ballet "Action" mod for Source though.

I followed AQ2 through its entire development, and it was one of the best mods I've ever played. Me and some friends used to LAN it like every other weekend, great fun.

Sad to see that they stopped development on the later incarnations of the mod, but for me AQ2 is the only Action mod. AHL and AUT never felt "right", compared to the original.

Indeed, AQ2 was the don. What were those bots that were relased for it? They were quality, had really good AI (waypoint based methinks). Action genres looking a bit dicey now, theres nothing on Source that I really feel captures what I like about action mods, which is a damm shame really.

Nope. Unless Filippo is a really, really good liar. Basically due to lack of time etc etc.
