We've talked about this before. You would love a smelly turd if it has a Fallout logo on it

Haha I know. But for me I hadn't played the originals before Bethesda did their take on Fallout so I haven't got the same nostalgia as you have. I have since played the originals and I can definitely see where you're coming from though.

Honestly, I wasn't feeling Fallout 4 at the beginning of the game. Hell even after doing some of the early quests and getting power armour etc I still wasn't feeling it. I'd been through the city and made it to the coast I was really not enjoying it as much as I thought I would be. Then after about 10 hours of gameplay it all clicked into place and I fell in love with it.

I think there are a lot of new things in the game and it throws them all at you right from the start. Power armour and needing power cores to power it. Crafting weapons, armour and your own settlement. The main bulk of Boston city is huge and there's little buildings you can enter all over the place. There's always a fight going on in the distance and the new VATS system is slightly different. You can see all of the skills and perks off the bat and I think the combination of all that is a bit much and I needed to learn how it all worked.

Once you've had chance to let it all sink in though it just becomes second nature like any other game and I find myself looking forward to playing it now. Especially at the point in the story I'm at, I want to know more... but first I'm going to explore this ruin and kill these Super Mutants. :)

I don't mean to defend FO4 or Bethesda, but falling into the trap of comparing it to Witcher3 is not very fair imo, they're both open world games but that's really where any similarities end, imo. You need to play games for what they are, and judge them for what they are, not compare them to other games that you enjoy, people that do that tend to end up disappointed because of unrealistic expectations. This applies to any kind of media, music, movies, games, books, etc.

I don't think it's a trap. The games are very comparable in scope and complexity. Witcher 3 set a new bar for production values and polish for a game of that scope and to me wins in every regard. FO4 is still fun but no way Bethesda will get away with another one of these, especially not if some more devs take cues from W3 by the time the next TES comes out.

And btw. i disagree that polsih means a game can't be crazy or random. It starts with things like plastic looking low res characters vs. highly detailed, beautiful character models.

That isnt even the camera angle original fallouts used. But anyway, there is no point in going back to that, it was only done due to technical limitations of the time. However I must say that the Fo1/2 art still looked much clearer than those shots.
