Regarding the size of the map, in fallout 3 a lot of DC wasn't traversable. You kept taking loading screens between places. FO4 has much less of that and is far more free roaming. I also refuse to believe that there is nothing in the right portion of the map which is mainly sea... There must be something down there, maybe Rivet city will somehow be operational and float along?

Don't forget there's a perk which allows you to breathe underwater!

Oh yeah, I already have this. It also means you don't take any of the radiation from water. You could also stomp around in power armour but are limited to the bottom of the ocean then...

But visibility is still shit, unless there is a way to fix it I don't know about

Honestly it's easily my favorite map of the past three Fallout games. It has the city that Fallout 3 was supposed to have, it has more variety than ever before and it has soooo many locations.

Has so many location, but even some of the un-named areas have personality and not just wasteland like in 3 and NV. Sneaking down a street and there are random buildings with raiders/mutants. And if you do downtown sometimes these places are literally across the road from each other, so you stumble across an area that feels like a warzone with the raiders and mutants fighting. Then get sent flying cos some idiot fired a fat man at something and blew up all the cars in the area.

Really does make the world feel alive when you see factions fighting without even knowing you are there, just random stuff happening.

Looks like a proper slum Dark!

Personally I'm having a hard getting interested by this game... it is so broken on the PS4 that I think I might wait for a few patches before going further. I literally can't play the game for more than 3 or 4 minutes without it bugging on me, whether it's subtitles not playing properly or doors not opening until I reload the game, there's always a bug to break the immersion. The dialogue system is really broken and uninteresting too and the worst part is that you have to "activate" NPCs 2 or 3 times sometimes before you get the options. Some other times the game will just say "This NPC is busy" until I reload. Every time I'm playing it feels that the game "forgot" to change some variable somewhere and the actors got stuck in a wrong state. The story so far has been really bland and uninteresting, all the characters I've met so far don't feel like wastelanders at all, but rather just generic game NPCs that exist in that world for the sole reason to hand you out quests. Maybe my memory is failing me, but Fallout 3 at least tried to give characters some meaning and backstory. I have only played 4 or 5 hours so far, and I already used a power armor, I got a minigun, laser guns, a fat man, killed a deathclaw and super mutants. There's no sense of progression. Your character comes out of the Vault and doesn't seem very impressed that it's been 200 years and that his world was destroyed and is now infested with mutated beasts. Oh and you will also get a workshop and the crafting stuff right away... no build up at all. I came out of the vault and got access to a huge list of mods and stuff that I could build right away, if I wanted to grind for the ingredients.

I hate to come across as a hater, I'm really trying to like the game and I'll keep playing hoping I change my opinion later on... I remember I had the exact same problem with Fallout 3. But so far this has not been the killer Fallout game I was expecting after FO3 and Skyrim.

Yea Minos, better wait for some patches. Sounds horrible with those bugs. Didn't have such massive problems on the PC version.

That said FO4 was a bit hard to get into for me aswell (would say it took me 10-15 hours to start feeling it). At first it felt small, bland and a remix of FO3 but it grew on me over time. Ther's an overwhelming amount of content packed in this game. What's important i think to fully enjoy this game is to play the settlement quest line. You're right ther's tons of weapons and crafting materials right from the start but this all is relative when you don't provide only for your character but also your companions and settlers.

As far as loot goes you will often get more excited about finding some rather mundane things then finding super weapons and armor. For example when you find a stash of light bulbs or wonderglue. Or one of the things that i set for myself to look out for is army fatigues and combat armor because i dress up all my settlers as my private army.

As much as I am loving the game, this is something that got to me. Its like they were in such a hurry to put you out into the big bad world that they didn't set any context or progression. Why should I care that my wife was killed and my son stolen when I have known them for all of 3 minutes. Then outside of a few comments from Codsworth when you first meet him, there is no shock that the world has gone to the dogs. Then you head to Concord and instantly shoot raiders that you know nothing about. For all your character knows, they could be the good guys since he knows nothing of the world. Then jump in some power armour and wrestle with a deathclaw. Combined with next to no tutorials, the first hour of the game really is the worst.

I really expected they would have a really slow first few hours of the game giving you detailed tutorials on all the new crafting systems, providing context for the world and setting the stage on whats to come. Especially as they would be aiming for an audience that probably hasn't played previous Fallout titles. Even New Vegas managed a decent tutorial by having Sunny Smiles teach you how to shoot, craft medicine and other small things. Then the game set you on a long path to get to New Vegas, making sure you met all the important factions and arrive at all the important towns as you go there.

But with part 4, its as if they created this massive and awesome world before even considering the main storyline. Then just lazily implemented a story to put your player in the world as soon as they could.

Its a shame because outside of that, it is far better than New Vegas once you get into it

Yea you get basically just thrown into a big sandbox and then you have to figure it out for yourself. I agree with what Angry Joe said in his review. He said something along the lines that despite the game being very enjoyable it's the last time that Bethesda will get away with all the flaws in their formula.

Did anyone attempt straying from the beginning path? (I'm talking about everything up to the deathclaw fight) wondering what happens if you just fuck off in another direction out of the vault.

@Jord who sits next to me at work did just that. Nothing different happens as far as I could tell and the Minutemen will still be there fighting raiders once you walk into town.

The only place it doesn't let you stray from the path is during the intro before the bomb drops. If you try to walk out of town the bomb drops early and you just die.

Here's my experience in a nutshell. Haven't played the game in 3 days or so, fire up my PS4 and the game breaks right away. Why you so mean to mean Fallout 4 :(

I've lost motivation to play, about 12 hours in, not feeling it like I did Skyrim and I knew it would happen, the setting is really boring for me personally. It's obviously well done and I might go back and play in the future, already got my monies worth. The base building is quite novel, but I realized how much grinding I'd have to do to get it better, and I know that I could complete the game without even building one (right?) I could go into more details, but it'd be biased because the world is not interesting to me and I don't think the game mechanics alone will keep me playing.
