So, I'm about 4 hours in. Such a great intro. And, holy shit, the scenery in this game really is incredible. I'm literally just walking around looking at rocks and shit. Photo mode is a game within itself. I love the "guerrilla warfare" style of combat they've gone for in this one as well, definitely warrants a second play-through on crushing. Also, love what they've done with the vehicles, really adds an interesting layer to the puzzling/exploration. And my god it just gets better, this Madagascar level has blown me away so far. Have you guys gotten here yet? It's a sensory overload, and it's so massive too!

Some screenshots I've taken along the way below: (I'm at the Madagascar level atm, so light visual spoilers up until that point.)

WHAT THE FUCK THIS FUCKING GAME!

This is hands down the most beautiful game I've ever set my eyes on and i'm just about 20% in. It is absolutely astonishing the level of polish and quality that was spent in every aspect of this game, from environment art to animation, my jaw is constantly in the floor.

One of my favourit things about this game, is that for the first time ever I actually felt I'm playing an action movie. The transition from cinematic to gameplay is so masterfully done it really makes this feel like a masterpiece.

Spoiler I played about 4 hour and change last night, and I love how the Italy act you start out in mid afternoon and it seemlessly starts to get sunset and nighttime as you get in and out of the environments! This is some top notch shit, Naughty Dog did it again!

Okay, I'll admit - my first play-through so far has basically been Uncharted 4: Photo Mode. The presentation of this game is stupidly good. Everything about this game is great, really.

Apart from the environment art (which we all know by now is incredible), something else that stands out to me are the character animations and the VO/acting. Emotions are understated and sophisticated and they really do capture all of the nuances of facial expressions/body language. First time in a video game where the characters honestly look and feel like real humans. The effect this has on storytelling is huge. L.A Noire had something similar to this, but it was no where near as impressive as it is in Uncharted 4. The word "masterpiece" might sound flamboyant to those who haven't played the game yet, but it really is the only word that comes to mind when trying to describe how good this game is.

So last year we got Witcher 3, definitely a landmark game (at least for me). Now this year we get Uncharted 4, another huge landmark game. We're also getting all these great little indie games like The Beginner's Guide, Undertale, Her Story, Rocket League. Not to mention the Souls games, a new Fallout, a new MGS game, freaking Overwatch comes out in like 2 weeks. I mean, damn - video games are getting pretty good.

I was thinking about the bests screenshots you took in the entire game (best places / lighting / env / archi / ...). Even if it spoils...it could interest some of us.

Ohhh, yeah. I have a ton! I'll probably put my favorite ones here once I finish the game. I think I'm pretty close. Would love you see everyone else's too - photo mode is so addictive!

Yeah, I took a few but I try not to focus on taking screenshots on my first playthrough. I wanna savor the experience as a gamer first, then I'll turn on my developer mode and will do a proper screenshot playthrough.

This is from neogaf, minor location spoilers after the click, prepare for GOODNESS.

This game is absolutely magnificent. I'm only a few chapters in and already I'm astonished by the consistently unreal amounts of loving detail everywhere. I remember when Uncharted 2 first impressed me with its large vistas and lots of environmental animations everywhere — something that a lot of games still fail to understand is key to giving the impression of a living, breathing environment. Uncharted 4 just packs so much of this detail into its bewilderingly large landscapes. It's not about polies or raw fidelity (although they help), but just the artistic craftsmanship at work here.

Forget about the graphics though. That's not even what makes this game so good. What really sets it apart is its complete mastery of the art of producing a linear scripted game. Nowadays words like 'linear' and 'scripted' are often perceived as negatives, but in a time when most games strive to be open world it's actually really refreshing to have a game dedicate itself so fully to bombastic cinematic moments and emotional impact. For example, the way Naughty Dog handles a death relatively early in the game while you're fully in control just feels like something out of a film.

I can't wait to see what the rest of the game has in store.

Dude you can practically pick a PS4 up for pocket change now. Go buy one, and play the Uncharted remastered collection then The Last of Us remastered then Uncharted 4!!!!!

Haha I know, but it's becoming a steal for the superb games and back catalogue you can enjoy. Or at least get a PS3 for the original versions of these games plus the endless excellent games available on there. I genuinely feel bad for people who haven't experienced masterpieces like Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us. It's almost like it'd be kinder to just shoot them dead like a horse with a broken leg.

It's a great time to be alive guys. I've always been proud to be a 80's child. I've been there since the beginning. Watching huge pixel blocks in Pitfall on the Atari evolve into the new Uncharted. I wouldn't want to have it any other way. Plus, I still got a lot of mileage left (hopefully). Bring on the new stuff to amaze me and make me feel like that little 5 year old boy again who just discovered his first virtual world.

    Please don't shoot me :|

But, when you put it like that I think I might consider the investment :o

Finally found this awesome talk about ND's texturing pipeline:

Btw. Logic, I figured out that because my budget is thin, I can split the cost of a PS4 with a good friend of mine...neither of us has that much time to play so we play when we get a proper chance to dive into that gorgeous world ND has crafted. :)

It sure feels like torture to reading all the hype. I really want to play this masterpiece....just need a little more patience. :/
