    What a news:

The best part is " the expansion of mobile platforms" - looks like most of the publishers are likely to hold the mobile market. Maybe it's a few bucks game but all that micropayments can make nice $...

Surprising, but I receive almost every day notifications of positions from the alerts i've set on Ubi and EA's job platforms...

Yeah, ask Supercell. "It generates $2.4 million per day".

Yeah, that's an insane amount! But check Puzzle & Dragons too ("daily revenue rate of $4.9 million").

If I had a company that generated this crazy amount of gold per day, I wouldn't have a company anymore. Work for a day/ week, cancel the game the day next (?), share some millions with the team and then go nuts around the world travelling and #yolo'ing.

Yes, with the thousands of games that generate a few million $ per day you just have to be...wait...did I say thousands? Because I meant a handful.

    Still, gg Ubisoft!

I'm reading the words "consolidation" and "concentration" in that press release. Sounds to me like other offices will be closed/moved to Montreal in the process.

It's not long before EA and Ubi stops making AAA-tiles and starts doing Candy Crush-ish. We'll probably all end up in that swamp.

I'm already in that swamp (but a swamp without any budget so we are 1 art + 1 dev + 1 boss that isn't a game designer... I let you imagine the quality of our gamedesign and final game) :

Hope to find something better in Paris.

But geat news, jobs are rare and even if its mobile, i'm sure working in a ubi studio is great !

I hope not. I guess that there's a nice chance in small indie games like Super Meat Boy etc. but with AAA quality. I really hope THIS is the future of gaming but usual AAA will never die obviously (I really hope so), market works like a wave, today mobile is awesome it's good to have our people there but it doesn't mean that it's the beginning of end for AAA or mobile is one and only proper. Sad to say but decision makers are only counting $$$ so when it takes small amount of $ to get ~$2 mln income per day it's not a rocket science to choose what's better for the company...

Adrian Chmielarz (Bulletstorm guy) said that mobile is dead and somehow he's right. Mobile is dead for small punks, big players are in the business, there's more than 50 new games per day. Mobile is not a green island now but indie games are. To get attention on Steam Greenlight you need to make a really nice game, know how to do it. There's talent, idea and effort needed, just like on mobiles but the there's not so much active devs and the audience is bigger so the cash is better.

That's my opinion, I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. I just hope that masterminds from giant corporations won't abandon AAA or will stay on PC/consoles...

Agreed, AAA titles won't die, as well as mobile's: they are just getting bigger and bigger as hardware quickly ramps up. Small indies will continue to make the occasional low-fi hit.

Yeah, read about that in the same article where I originally found out about Supercell, but I think Supercell is a much younger studio and much smaller.

Sign me up for doing what Gabe's partner did; if I made Minecraft, I would have bought a boat and established myself in Greece

Anyways, it must be invigorating to be able to open your own studio, without growing it bigger than you.

mmh, are they getting in the business too?

It all sounds scary. But remember, memories are short in this industry and things tend to be cyclical.
