Nintendo 2DS

Bizarre but for kids I guess. I'd imagine it's built like a tank.

Nintendo 2DS
"From the creators of Power Glove..."

Seems like a crappy idea at first but make a lot of sense imo, specially for lower income people and 3rd world countries

-
And in all honesty, does anybody even play 3ds games with the 3d on? I never did for more than a couple of minutes...
-
I can't even see the 3D thanks to my weaker left eye.

-
I would be all for this, if they'd just kept the same clamshell design. I think losing the 3D to make it cheaper and have longer battery life is a good move.
This just looks like a joke however, can't believe they found that design acceptable, looks like one of those cheap Chinese knockoffs.
-
I thought 3D was cool for about 30 seconds. Never used the 3D again whenever I got my hands on a 3DS.
In the handheld space for the last decade it's pretty hard to bet against Nintendo...so we'll see. I'm a bit optimistic about it, even though I'd never play it, won't get it for my oldest kid (who's too young now anyway) and didn't see it coming anyway as well.
Still...the form factor...

...but yeah kids have been into the non-clamshell design before so we'll see.

129$ is still too much, it should be 100$! It's still a massive thing, doesn't fit in your pocket, and it's just an abomination! But hey, yeah, we're not it's target market I think.
This is as much of a good idea as the micro game boy was

^ lmao holy shit

Isn't this in practice a rebranding of the old DS?
-
No, confusingly the 3DS is actually a whole new generation. Its games don't run on any other kind of DS. :s

Nop, the 3ds' hardware is a lot better and has internet support.
The 3DS is a great machine by the way, it's slowly starting to pick up the pace but it's got some awesome games already (Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, Ocarina of Time, Etrian Odyssey, just to name a few I remember).
-
I think its a great idea personally. I've seen the ravages of childhood firsthand
-
definitely digging the upper half

Of course they are putting in it the latest chips, but without the 3D support, how this isn't just a not foldable DS?
Plays DS titles, plays 3DS titles without the 3D... -
Well Nintendo definitely makes it confusing, but the 3DS is considered a new generation of handheld. It's a bit like comparing the PSP to the Vita. The 3DS isn't just a DS that can do 3D, it's a new console with different games that don't run on a DS whether they're 3D or not (you can disable 3D on the 3DS too btw).
Basically it goes:
- Game Boy
- Game Boy Color
- Game Boy Advance
- DS
- 3DS
Each one usually supports the games of the one before, for example the DS plays GBA games and the 3DS plays DS games. All the other models (DSi, XL, GBA SP, etc) are just revisions, not new consoles. The 2DS is a revision of the 3DS but not a DS.
It's easy to see why people thought the Wii U was just another Wii revision, right?
