    Any phone wizards in the house? Specifically Apple focused?

    I've got an encrypted back up, for which I have the password, but not the phone. Without the phone, I can't unlock my contacts. Is there a workaround? I tried hooking up another Iphone but no luck.

    My phone is gone for 2 weeks for repairs and apparently my contacts weren't on my SIM and I encrypted the back up I made. Temp phone is basically useless without my contacts.

    Have you tried logging on iCloud? Everything should be there... I recently reset my phone and for some reason it didn't allow me to restore the backup, and I managed to push the backupped contacts/notes from the web (if I'm not mistaken).

    Tell me you have iCloud backup turned on.

    Is your temp phone an iPhone as well ?

    Okay then I think I know someone who had that specific issue a while back. It's sad that Apple product and Android ones kinda usually don't get along on those aspects..

    If you don't have iCloud, the SIM-card with the contacts on or the contacts saved in your backup copy, you're pretty much toast. There could be another way, but none that I am aware of :/

    Not sure what you meant by "hooking up another iPhone". Do you mean that you used the backup to convert the other iPhone into a copy of the original? If you did that then the contacts should be there, unless you specifically changed the settings to not copy contacts to your backup-file.

    Converting iPhone contacts into Android contacts is a piece of cake. Plenty of software for that. the simplest solution is probably to use google contacts.

    install itunes on your PC and log into your apple account. I *think* it gives you the option to view via that.


    Icloud is a massive pain in the ass for me- had to throw away 20k+ hardware due it it.

    @Sprony I asked him. What he did was using Samsung kies to restore his iPhone backup, but it didn't work with his encrypted back up. He had to have an encrypted one for it to work.

    Sorry that I can't help more ! You should blame Apple for it, maybe if many people do so, they'll develop a piece of software to allow people doing something with something else than with another of their products.

    I called Apple and you wouldn't believe it but this, according to them, is the only solution. Get a random Iphone, put my encrypted back up on it. Then back it up again without encryption and I'm good to go. It's so ridiculous that I have the back up, I have the password, but I simply can't do anything because I've no Iphone connected to it. That's some serious bad programming right there.

    That's exactly what my friend ended up doing, but that isn't a real solution to your problem though. Try to fall in love with your Samsung S5 I guess

    Sorry @laminutederire, not to pass for the apple fan, but how is that Apple's fault?

    Isn't encryption implemented differently by different companies? Do you just need to put a password in if you move an encrypted backup from iOS to android?

    Dunno maybe it's just me having the wrong expectations or not remembering correctly how encryption works… uni was 12 years ago ☹️

    It's their fault because if the encryption is different than everybody else's they should allow users to decrypt them from the computer with their password. I also said that because Apple is very well known to intentionally not do anything like the others to close compatibility with anything out of their ecosystem.

    I may be a bit harsh with them, but even when there are law which everyone but them follows they don't do it and continue to do it as they always do: differently. To me if you plainly disregards the compatibility with the rest of the world, you have to be responsible for it. If they don't want to be responsible for it, they should at least be more transparent about their code, so that other people can code it instead of Apple.

    It's like NVIDIA's policy on not publishing its source code on some functionalities, making AMD look like the bad guy because amd drivers weren't coded for that, and they had to reverse engineer the whole thing to update their driver. The blame wasn't on AMD,they did what they could with someone who purposely made something different with no intention to share just to screw the competition over.

    Anyway, I don't want to be a jerk or whatever, but I just dislike Apple's sneaky policy to screw other brand over, it's childish and should be punished severely.

    I like to think that on matters of encryption there's more to it than just policies, I mean technical aspects.

    I'm more baffled by the much more basic limitation of OS X not reading NTFS drives (at least until some versions ago, despite them supporting dual boot), but goes both ways as Windows doesn't read HFS… while I believe Linux reads either(?)

    No. I have a Iphone backup and all I wanted to do is transfer my contacts to my temp Android phone. But even without all of that, the backup is completely useless without the Iphone.

    I don't think that's the point. It's more about not being able to unlock it on your pc even though you have the password.

    Actually since android code is more open, people have coded some softwares to decrypt, from any device which can run java 7 or 8, the encrypted backups. (this one looks legit enough and normally do the trick. I think it worked for a friend of mine).

    It requires some command line basics, but hey, better than nothing. After that you get an archive file of te backup where you retrieve basically anything you want yo get it to another phone.

    I just received my MSi GTX 1060, installed it, and got one long beep and 3 short beeps when I boot the Pc..... ;( And nothing is drawned on the screen.

    I tried to put it on another PCI 3.0 port, nothing. I made a clear CMOS, nothing. I'm suppose to have enough power left for this new baby. My mother board is a gigabyte GA Z77H D3H, a cpu i5 2500k, 2 DDR3 (so 8Go Ram), 3 ventilo and 2 storage disks. My power box is 530 W and I only need around 330W for this config.

    So I'm asking for your help. I didn't find anything interesting on the internet... ;(
