For real, I thought the story in FF8 was fabaroo (the final boss was a bit weird though, but the actual end to the story was amazing. I thought it was one of the more powerful narratives in any game I've played to date tbh).
The combat system was weird and massively unintuitive though.
But the card game was cool !! 
I tried playing through FF8 2 times now, for some reason I always forget about it and never finish it... That song brings back memories though 
I hope they get to FF8 soon!
Was FF8 or 9 ever released on PC back then?
Apparently FF8 had a PC release. And you could easily emulate both of them now.

But the card game was cool !!

And if you've a android phone you can download FourFront TCG, it's the same game except that the cards are not from the FF universe. You can also play it against friends over bluetooth.
The Card Queen/Car Club side quest was actually challenging, meaning that it was really frustrating specially when you got weird trading rules and lost all your good cards.
I also lke FFVIII more than FFVII simply because the characters are more belivable, even the GFs (summons) had some depth and personality traits that made you care about them.
The story in VIII was also good, but like I said here before it's a shame that most of it was spoiled in the intro cinematics.
At the time, i saw this box only once, in a shopping mall near my home.

I've only played FF8 but my memories of it are very fond. I loved the characters and story, which helped me get over the fact that I didn't actually like the kind of grindy gameplay that much.
In my mind's eye the game took place in an impossibly large and varied world, I remember being bowled over by how expansive the game seemed and each location was a joy to discover. It probably wasn't as huge as I remember it compared to today's games.
Did anybody play FF12 here? That's definitely one of the most memorable games I have ever played... and still looks amazine imo. Really wish they would go back to this style and universe, which doesn't seem very likely

Time for a HD release maybe?
All the Final Fantasy Tactics games after the first (albeit best by far) are based in the Final Fantasy 12 universe, but you don’t really get to explore it in the same sense. I thought Final Fantasy 12 was pretty cool but if you used the Gambit system well you can automate so efficiently it almost looks like FF13 (just kidding, of course, FF12 isn't a single corridor for 99% of the game).

I love this game dude. Probably one of my favourite FF games. The combat system was awesome and had a lot of depth to it, even though there was quite a bit of grinding involved! Chaining monster kills was a lot of fun
