Found the first one really disappointing, despite being a big fan of the LOTR trilogy. Was too childish, unfunny and the characters weren't as likeable as the LOTR ones. The first 45 mins or so of the film were some of the worst cinema I've sat though in a few years (dwarf dinner party scene was cringy). The only really good bit was when Gollum turned up but that was over too quick. I do hope this new one is better but I don't have high hopes for it anymore

@Hobbit 1, I agree with PaulH 100%, first hour or so of the movie was horrible.

To be fair, its hard to compare the Hobbit films to the Lord of the Rings because the Hobbit is just not as good of a story as LOTR. It's a little fairy tale-type story with a very whimsical tone where the characters face danger but are never actually harmed. It's pretty impressive what they've done with it so far though, but it was never going to be able to stack up against LOTR.

I think it was just as good as the first one The first one was more about introducing all the characters. Which is why almost half the movie was the insides of bilbos hole.
